  1. Hi everyone, Just an update for anyone who had read my thread that my partner and I just bought our dream home in Cleveland. We inspected many houses in Birkdale, Wellington Point and Cleveland for the last 4 weeks. We failed two offers in Wellington Points because the vendors were asking for too much. The one we bought in Cleveland is quite new and it is very close to the train station so that we can go to work by trains. The express trains take 43 mins to get to Park Road station but I think it is good enough if compared to my commute here in Sydney. Thanks a lot everyone who bothered to read my posts and gave me lots of tips and comments.
  2. Thank you. I really hope buses/trains in Brisbane are much more reliable than in Sydney
  3. You were so brave to turn it down I feel so lucky that I can leave Sydney for the good hopefully. We will be commuting to/from work using trains/buses.
  4. Thanks for your advices. I do not know if schools are great in the southern suburbs. Could you please give us some ideas?
  5. Thanks. We love Mango Hill too. We may think about this suburb as well
  6. Thanks for your post. Wynnum is great and we like it but unfortunately we can not afford to buy a house there.
  7. Thanks a lot for your input. I know it would be a long commute each day. We are trying to find a better solution We also like North Lakes and Mango Hill in the North but I believe the commute would be very similar and housing prices are more expensive.
  8. Hi everyone, After living and working for 18 months in Sydney, my partner and I have decided to move to Brisbane. I will start my new job at UQ and my partner will be working in the CBD. We have a little one who will be attending his kindergarten from next month. Reasons to leave Sydney are that it is too expensive for us and we could not afford to buy our home. Our income in Brisbane would be similar with what we earn now here in Sydney. The biggest matter for both my partner and I at the moment is to choose where we will be staying. We really like bayside suburbs including Thorneside, Birkdale, Wellington Points and Ormiston because it is near the water and probably housing prices are more affordable. Northern suburbs are great too but they are also more expensive. We would like to hear from anyone who knows or has experiences living in Bayside suburbs. Are they good to raise a family? Are schools good? And how about commuting to/from UQ/CBD? We will start our new jobs in March so we have to decide a place to settle as soon as possible. Thank you very much and look forward for comments/suggestions/or experience in advanced.
  9. Thanks a lot Captain Roberto and Maryrose02 for your great inputs. I will have a closer look over some suggested suburbs. Your pics look great, Maryrose02.
  10. Thanks a lot again MARYROSE02 for very useful information. I really appreciate it. Hopefully we will find a great apartment around UTS to live in.
  11. Thanks for fabulous post Naomi from Manchester. It seems you found a great place to live in Sydney. We really want our little child can play with other kids in a small community like in a unit complex as you just described in your residential complex. Thank you for your tips. We will put our child's name on waiting lists soon. Do you play tennis or other sports? I love playing tennis and hope to find a group or club to join in the inner suburbs.
  12. Thanks for your great post MARYROSE02. I hate commuting as well so that's why we want to live in an inner suburb. Actually we like the idea to live in Surry Hills and try to find an apartment there. It will be great if we can become neighbors. But I guess we should move there first and then start looking for an apartment. You are right. I will be working at UTS so hopefully we can get an accommodation in one of the inner suburbs. Do you think biking to work is practical in the inner suburbs?
  13. Thank you Marisawright for your reply. We have never lived in a big city like Sydney or London so it is hard to imagine. We would like to live in an inner suburb for the first several months and decide where to settle in for a long term.
  14. Hi all, We will be moving to Sydney within a month and would like to have some opinions from you guys here about where to live. My work place is in Ultimo and we really want to live nearby. We have not been to Sydney before and never intended to live there in the first place (preferred Brisbane) but life is full of surprises. We are doing lots of research to find a good suburb to live and we are a young family of three. Is that hard to find a child care center for a 4 year old child in the inner suburb? How much more expensive is this to live in inner suburbs compared to other suburb say 10-15 km from CBD? Hope to hear from you guys. Cheers
  15. I am not an expert but I have heard a lot of rumors that many jobs advertised by agencies were actually not real. I don't know if this is true or not. But since you did not get any positive feedback from agencies for many jobs that matched your qualifications and skills, I would agree with you that something is not fine in your resume or cover letters. Is English your first or second spoken language? If it is your second language, I think you should get help from a professional resume writer. That doesn't mean I ignore your English proficiency though because you still had jobs else where. The good thing about using a professional resume service is that they can help use proper words and layout. As a result, your resume may stand out from the crowd. The bad thing is you have to pay quite a lot for a 2-page resume.
