  1. Hi, we made the move at the end of May (update on our progress will follow in a few weeks). Anyway, I am interested in booking a weeks trip for myself, my hubby and two teenage kids, plus my mum, for a week in the school Christmas holidays, probably January some time. Having never been to Bali or Fiji, I am after your hints and tips, recommendations and avoidances etc on either of the islands so I can start to plan a weeks trip. I'm happy for a mix of beach and touristing! Thanks in advance for your help. Laura and Family x
  2. Hi, no you can't visit, although I do know someone who is a breeder / champion show dogs owner who uses quarantine quite frequently, and they allow her to visit hers. That however is a very rare exception. They don't let the normal owners such as ourselves go to visit. My my two dogs just came out of quarantine on Friday and I don't want to think about what it must have been like for them. My vet requested they share a kennel as one is very nervous, I have no idea if this was allowed as they have not returned my calls or emails! They came out skin and bone. They are small dogs, one was 6.6kg and one was 8kg. I took them to our local vet for registering and a general check. The smaller of the two was a mere 5.6kg with an ear infection and the other was 6.5kg. I have written a letter of complaint about how two such small dogs can lose over 20% of their body weight in ten days and nothing be done about it. Or that medical care was not given to my girl who is 9 and had an ear infection. Which she certainly didn't have when she went in. I wouldnt be be without them though, they love their walks but are still a bit subdued in the house. Although that may just be getting used to their new surroundings.
  3. We have just moved and were previously with the HSBC and so opened an account when we got here with them. There's no fees for transferring between the two countries, but think you need a certain type of account for this in the UK. It has been very convenient being able to see global accounts on one screen when doing Internet banking.
  4. Hi all, we have a query and can't find a straight answer on the web, so hoping someone can help. Hubby and our two kids and I live in Perth as PRs. Hubby has 3 kids still in the UK, aged 20, 17 and 14. They are coming over for a 2 week holiday in the UK school holidays on their own. I know they need a tourist e-visa, but someone has mentioned that they may need a consent to travel. We can't find a definitive answer to this. Initially we thought it was maybe a letter from their mother allowing them to travel without a parent to visit us, but we can't find anything to confirm this, we have since found form 1229 but again it is unclear if it fits in this situation as they will be travelling with no parent although the eldest is an adult. Please can anyone help who may have been in this situation. We need to get it sorted ASAP. Thanks for for any help. Laura
  5. Thanks Mary-Anne, I'm so pleased to hear that your three were OK, did they share a kennel at all? I cant ant wait to see our girls again soon x
  6. Hi all, we are in Perth and our two dogs fly out on Sunday 26th June, they arrive and go straight into quarantine on Tuesday 28th June. i am arranging the flights from Quarantine to Prty myself but have got a tad confused with my dates. They have are to do 10 days in quarantine, and I thought that the entry and exit day were not included in those 10 days and so thought that they came out on Saturday 9th July, but the UK shippers have just emailed (they have a new office person) to say they will be due to leave on Friday 8th July. I now desperately want to be live them, can anyone please help. What date will my dogs be realised? I've tried checking the quarantine websites but it's "down"! Thanks Laura
  7. We are just about to enrol our two into high school in WA, the school have asked for the past two school reports which I have had to ask their old school to email over as I only brought the last one. Id bring as much as possible just in case.
  8. Hi all, we have just arrived in Perth and looking to change our driving licenses however, hubby is not in receipt of his early UK pension and neither of us is rushing out to find work, so how do we get a license as it states for forms of ID you need at least one category D piece of evidence, which is either a letter from an employer or from a principal (of which we have neither) how do retired people of housewives etc get round this? please can anyone help? Thanks laura
  9. We fly tomorrow but have a bit too much stuff. I've looked into shipping "a box" with parcel monkey, and I'm sure this is the dumbest question ever but..... does it actually need to be a box, or can it simply be a hold-all bag? Thanks laura
  10. We are sending our two Bichon Frise in June with Golden Arrow, they were the only company I spoke to who actually "asked" about my girls. Every other company just wanted their weight, dimensions etc. They have been been so helpful, great with communication, still always talk about the girls and the process, they have made me so relaxed about the whole process. And price wise they were slightly more than one other shipper but cheaper than two others. So far, I have been really impressed with them.
  11. If they can't be pushed, can they be dragged (kicking and screaming!)? the problem is, is that he has been sat on the sofa for the past 12 months and if we don't take him with us, he will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. WHV may be the way to go.
  12. Hi all, I am looking for possible options (and estimated costs if anyone can help). This is our situation: We move to Perth next week, myself, hubby and 2 teenage kids. My hubby has a son (almost 21) from a previous relationship, who lives with his mum at present. He was not on our application for PR. He he has no driving license, no job and no qualifications to speak of. I would like to look at options for him coming with us that are more than just a WHV with the option of 2 years assuming he did the 3 month rural work. He is a lovely lad, but gets no support from his mum and with us being at a distance it has been hard. Now that he is getting older and "wiser" he has now said that he wishes he had lived with us as he knows his life would have turned out differently. Sadly, we know that if he stays with his mum, he will continue to do nothing with his life. Whilst I know you need to have some kind of drive in life, but with us he would at least be pushed and supported (and pushed!!!!) Is is it possible that there is a way he could get some kind of visa to come out and study for something like a trade apprenticeship with a view to then getting either sponsorship afterwards or even PR. And if that is possible, how would we go about that? Thanks for for any advice etc that anyone can offer.
  13. Hi, we are emigrating to Perth in a fortnight. My mum is just looking at booking her flights to come and visit and as thinking October to Feb 17 but I'm not sure if she can only stay for 3 months on a visitor visa. Although a few state that you can stay for up to 3 months (as many times as you want) for the length of the 12 month visa, so theoretically you could visit 3 times for 3 months in the year??? is there a visa she can get that will allow four months tourist visa or are we bound by 3 months? And does she even need a visa, or is it just a case or turn up with a return flight and get your passport stamped? She seems to think this is what happened when she went to NZ which clearly my have different rules, but that her passport was stamped for 6 months entry. She prob will only visit over the winter each year until she can apply for a contributory visa. Thanks for any help. Laura
  14. I don't think you can ship your items without giving the shipping company a copy of your visa. Whilst they are currently booked, at the point where they ask for your visa details, you will hit a stumbling block.
