We are moving to newcastle from adelaide in December. We are looking at state high schools either Lambton High or Kotara High. Have you heard much about them? We would have to rent in the school zones to get our son in , he will be year 10. Any info would be useful, thankyu

I live in Adelaide and we are relocating to NSW be coz of poor job prospects. It is not what you know but who you know in my experience. There is a small town mentality here and a lot if poms I have met say they have committed career suicide here . Go to melbourne if I were you cosmopolitan and a proper City that is more open to people of all nationalities.

Hi everyone, Looks like it might be Melbourne not cairns or Townsville for our move from Brisbane. I have an interview for The Alfred hospital next week, so if offered this job then will take it. Have been told that Queensland health have financial issues with cutbacks and probably better to take job in victoria if offered rather than wait for Queensland job. Need to get something quick as on a 457 and things not worked out for me with this employer (no names mentioned) have had a bad experience with bullying and basically been forced out of my job after moving here with my family only 6 months ago. It's been a nightmare, have to children,age 16 and 11,the 16 year old now not going to school as doesn't know what is happening.Basically if I don,t get another sponsor in 28 days then we will be deported. My husband has one work with an agency, but not guaranteed. If I had to come to oz agin I would obtain my PR before arriving, this means that you ate not at the mercy of an employer and if things don,t work out as with myself then you can just move on and have more security. Anyway that's enough of my bad news, although would e interested to hear from other 457 visaholdersin a similar position ie job not worked out, what happened etc? On a happier note, if I do get this position at the Alfred, are there any nurses working there who can tell that it is a friendly place to work, and also suburbs with a good high schools and family friendly within 30 mins drive fron the hospital? Would be good to her from anyone adjust want to settle somewhere and put some roots down, for the kids sake

Thanks to everyone who posted, they both sound like good places for different reasons, we are still undecided, I guess that we will have to make a visit for ourselves, at least one of us will anyway. Will let you know what's decide ... Thanks again

Thanks for that we are nurses and I have applied for jobs in both places, hopefully will get an interview. Just wanted to get some local knowledge beforehand Would like to keep this thread going re-Cairns or Townsville ... Anyone else got any views would be great ... We are looking at moving to either Townsville or cairns, has anyone any experience of either of these places as it wouldbe great have some views from people that have actually lived or are living there now? What are the major differences ie weather, lifestyle, work,schools,friendliness,cost of living etc any info greatly received. We are a family with two older children, will need high schools, tafes and poss. Uni options. Hope to hear from some people soon ....:biggrin:
