  1. Thanks for the advice:) I need to try check with HR without giving any hints that it would be me - I don't want to jepordise my current position with the company. I was thinking 2 months notice would be suffice. If I was leaving the company completely I would only have to give 4 weeks notice. At the moment in the company, if I was to leave they would probably replace me with someone on a 12 month fixed term contract (oil company and down turn in oil) Another reason why I think it wouldn't affect them so much anyway. I just don't know how to approach the situation, and how to put it forward to my managers...
  2. Thanks for the advice The reason my friend suggested the 3 month tourist visa to begin with was so we could do the travelling first, and also incorporate Bali at the end, spend some time in Bali and get WHV from there. Then when we enter Australia we've already done the travelling and technically have an extra 3 months to play with (ie, instead of having 1 year it's 1 year 3 months)
  3. Hello Wondering if someone can help me - I have few options for getting to Australia... My friend is going to a WHV in Feb/March time and i would LOVE to go with her. I'm 100% up for it however extremely nervous about giving up my job. Has anyone ever taken a sabbatical for 1 year? How did you go about asking your employer about it? I would be keen to have something in place in case I go to Oz and end up not liking it or it doesn't work out.* A friend who has done the whv has recommended that we apply for 3 month tourist visa, travel for that time, go to Bali and apply for whv whilst there then enter Oz with whv and get farm work out the way then you basically have 2 full years and already done the travelling bit first. Has anyone done it this way before?* Lastly, if I wasn't to go ahead with the above then I might have the option of this.. I currently work for a global company as a management accountant and there are always opportunities to transfer to another site in a different region or country. I have made my bosses aware of my keenness to discuss any job opportunities that come up for the offices in Australia. If a job came up and I wanted to go for it, how would it work visa wise? Although I work as a management accountant, I'm not fully qualified therefore don't think I'd qualify for the list even though accountant is on it.* Thanks Natalie* PS - I have always wanted to go to Australia but always put it off for one thing or the other. I'm a single 27 year old girl and think the time is right!

  5. I'm registered with a professional accounting body...just not under took any exams as get! I have 7 experience in the finance sector and worked my way up. Would that not count for anything? My company are registered sponsors I'm sure. They have relocated someone within HR a few years ago. I do intend on asking my company within the next few weeks, I just wanted to have all the facts myself before questioning them about it. I want to be in Oz by end of year..we'll see how it pans out! And if a position is actually available for me! Thank u x
  6. Yes my occupation is on both lists, management accountant. Would i I have to do skills tests? What is involved? Although I'm employed as a management accountant I do not have the qualification. Does this matter? I've been working as a management accountant for 1 year and previously worked as financial accountant for 3 years. Previously worked as accounts assistant then worked my way up. How do u check if the company is an approved sponser? What would happen if they weren't?
  7. Hi all with my current employer there are always chances to go elsewhere to work. I have been looking at asking for transfer/relocation to the Sydney branch. If a job was available then how would this work? ie, what visa would I need to apply for? How long roughly would it take for it to be granted? How long would I need to stay with the employer? I orignally wanted to do whv but if a job is available then it seems more sensible to do that!
  8. Yes unpaid. I would have around £3-£4k to take with me to start off. Where would you suggest heading first etc? It would be me and my friend (both 26 female) We want to travel before working in Sydney.
  9. Hey, i originally planned to go to Oz on a WHV in October 13 but things changed and I stayed in Glasgow but then moved to Aberdeen where I'm enjoying my job and the city. But not I'm regretting not going when I planned to and don't want to regret anymore so I've been thinking of going at the end of this year for definate this time. My job in Aberdeen allows me to transfer to anywhere worldwide if there is a job suitable. I'm thinking of asking my employer how to go about a transfer to Sydney. How would this work with a visa etc? Would I only be on a whv? Or would I automatically get sponsored by my company? I'm not sure how it all works and want to know everything before I speak to my boss re it. I was planning on saying I want a transfer for early next year but actually leave in oct this year to do travelling before starting work. For or anyone who has travelled Oz, where would u recommend starting off if u want to end up Sydney?
  10. What about being a Scottish girl? Haha! x
  11. I've not done it so cant help you on that one, but i'm hoping to go in Sept/Oct this year and i have been looking into it as well. seems a good way to meet folk - especially if you are possibly going yourself, like me.
  12. thanks Stasia! Did you do the WHV? I was looking at the Sydney-Cairns on the Greyhound. I feel like I need a proper plan as its all kinda of just "ideas" in my head! yeah, ive def got the feeling of "I need to do it"
  13. im really close to both my parents so I think its just that they'll miss me. but what parent wouldn't miss their child. and afterall, im the baby of the family ha!! ive always wanted to see the world and they know this as I had originally wanted to move to Dubai as I love it there. I just want to go do it so I can put my mind at rest and know ive experienced it. ive always said I wouldn't move their perm but who knows, never say never!! I know £3500 isn't a lot but im hoping id pick up work fairly quick. and if I don't like it or if its not for me, its not the end of the world....I can still come home!
  14. hi all. im hoping to come to Australia in Sept/October time on a WHV. I've been wanting to go for years, so finally gonna take the plunge and just do it instead of sitting thinking about it. I would like to do the OZ intro so that I meet folk and not a loner! then after that poss go to Cairns and travel back down using the Greyhound pass. Ive looked at hostels etc and they all look ok. I think i'll have around £3500 by time I leave. I have a good job here as a Finance Manager, im 24 and live at home. my problem is my parents....they don't seem to get why I want to go to oz. and possibly even on my own. I want to experience it and don't want to look back in a few years when im possibly settled down with kids etc and wish I had done it. not getting any younger ha!! I would do the 3months regional work and then hopefully pick up work as I go to fund my travels. how can I convince my mum and dad that this is ok to do?? help!!
