  1. Hi I was wondering if anyone can help. I am currently in Australia on a 190 visa. Myself and my husband got married in the UK 12 days before we emigrated and I have since changed my name in Australia, do I need to get my visa updated? If so, does anyone know how I go about this? We have also recently had a baby (so he is an Australian citizen), my name on his birth certificate is my married name, but when applying for the passport it asks for a copy of the visa and that is in my maiden name. Not sure what to do.
  2. I am a teacher and didn't use an agent. I spent a lot of time researching things and felt that for me that we didn't need one. I am organised and ensured that I read and reread everything, asking on here for any advice. I did this along with planning a wedding (we got married 12 days before we flew out).
  3. My best friend goes to see the band often that were playing but didn't go on Friday as her boyfriend was working. One of his friends is still missing, they have been told to expect the worst. Its so sad!
  4. Hi Feel free to PM me, I am a teacher, arrived in Adelaide 4 months ago and have a toddler. Ask away. x
  5. We flew with Singapore airlines. We were on an 190 State Sponsored permanent visa. I emailed Customer Services before we got to the airport and they confirmed that we would get double baggage allowance. When we checked in we got a "jobsworth", even though I had an email from customer services they caused a big fuss....saying because the 190 visa had an expiration date it was a migrant visa...even though we have no intention of going back. After a long time...and me nearly crying the woman "gave" us the extra baggage allowance of 40kg each, and then charged us £35 per extra kilo! Cost us a little bit as we had got married just before we came over and I had my wedding dress in a case.
  6. I had an interview in Melbourne last week...it was then shortlisted to 3 people for a 2nd interview, I was interviewed the next day for the 2nd interview. I am still waiting to hear. I called the school today and was told they are still going through the selection process as not everyone had their 2nd interview on the same day. I have no tips, if she is passionate about teaching/subject and haven't told any lies on her CV then she should be ok, but a word of warning...the panel had studied my CV, each having circled/underlined things...asking questions about my actual degree that I finished 14 years ago, etc. Also asking me to explain things that I had written as it is a different system, from teaching styles to assessment/examinations. I had no problems answering any of the questions as they were all in truth, and I am very passionate about my subject/teaching which the head teacher commented on at the end of my interview.
  7. Myself and my husband arrived in Adelaide 2 weeks ago. On Wednesday my husband visited a few companies related to what he did back at home. At the 5th company he visited he walked out with a uniform, he started yesterday.
  8. Fantastic, we head out on Thursday too. We are flying from Manchester to Adelaide!! So excited!
  9. What no Robinsonss........oh no...I might not get on my flight next month!!
  10. I think only you know the answer. We are flying in 4 weeks. I had 2 westies which I rehomed a few weeks ago. WE honestly couldn't have afforded to take both....but the main reason...my older dog has epilepsy, which is often triggered by stress. I do think that the flight would have killed her, if not that then the quarantine. My younger dog suffers from separation anxiety and I think that quarantine wouldn't have been great for her either. We found a lovely couple who have taken on both our dogs. It broke my heart to leave them but I couldn't put them through it. They have been rehomed together, and the couple who took them often put pictures on Facebook, so I get to see them often and they look happy.
  11. We would have rehomed our dogs with my mum but she has decided to sell up and move to Tenerife since we are heading to Oz. There were no other family members that could take them but they have a new forever home, and I see pictures of them on Facebook often. I miss them both so much, and have cried lots over my decision, but I do think it was the best for our dogs...I would be worried that my dog would have a seizure during the flight and have to lie in her own filth as anxiousness made the seizures worse.
  12. WE are lying to Australia in July and we have rehomed our dogs. Our older dog had epilepsy and is on medication twice a day....I honestly think the flight would have killed her. Someone has happily taken on both dogs as we didn't want to split them up and really couldn't afford the money to take both of them.
  13. I had a dog before I met my OH so it he didn't like animals it would have been a deal breaker...the dog was there first. We then got another one together. It breaks my heart that we had to rehome both our dogs a few weeks ago, we just couldn't afford to take them both with us, and I honestly don't think the older one would have made the journey. What makes it easier for me is I know they have went to a good home, they are both still together, and I can get regular updates on how they are doing, not just from the new owners but from family in the area. I miss them so much already. x
  14. We are just outside Glasgow, moving to Adelaide. We had Crown out last week packing all our stuff. Obviously can't comment on delivery etc but happy with everything so far including packing. Also the best quote out of 5 companies.
  15. WE are heading to Adelaide in July, don't have jobs yet, but hoping that one of us will have a job before we go. Good luck everyone. x
