  1. Yeah the majority of Aussies I met last summer were great guys. Apt of the jobs I've looked at are in call centres, marketing etc don't suppose you have any experiences of these workplaces?
  2. Thanks guys - I've posted this in the NSW forum aswell so hopefully more people will see it. We want an adventure and to meet new people plus we loved sydney when we visited on holiday last year and know a lot of Brits who have moved there in the past on WHV and lived in shared accommodation and made it work for them so I guess I'm just checking whether people have or are doing this now. Again thanks guys for your response - much appreciated
  3. Thanks for your reply too Mary Rose - loads of people make the trip every year don't they and a lot of jobs I've seen are aimed at backpackers so just wanted to make sure we could get by if we opted for the move. Thanks for website link - will look it up as sharing is something we would be up for
  4. Many thanks jumping jilly bean for your detailed reply. It's really good to get helpful information like that. The links to the sites are excellent as well as it gives us a starting place to look at. We haven't really got as far as nailing down a few suburbs to live yet but would like a City suburb - we are not too fussed about living at the beach so long as we can get there on weekends and commuting isn't really a massive deal for us as we already do that back in the UK so say a 30 mins commute would be less that what we are doing now. We had friends that lived in Edgecliff and that seemed a nice place to live and they shared a three bedroomed flat with two other couples so that could definitely be a route we go down. Again thanks for th info - it's much appreciated
  5. I can appreciate you commenting on my post again - sorry if this is a bit of sore subject for you but I am generally after talking to other travellers/couples who are in the same situation. The jobs for backpackers generally pay a similar amount so I'm just trying to get a feel for what other people on WHV are doing. My post States its 'difficult' to put a figure on a question like this in the first instance. Rent in Sydney seems cheaper than London when comparing the wages on offer to be honest.
  6. hi guys I have already posted this on the backpackers section of the forum but feel I may get a little more joy in the NSW area of the forum so here goes... we are a couple looking to move next year to sydney. We visited on holiday last summer and fell in love with the city. We are hoping to travel on a WHV for an initial year and after doing some research on the net was wondering if a couple could lead a comfortable life in sydeny bringing home 500-600 dollars each a week, so 1200 in total? By comfortable we mean groceries, utilities and rent (saw a few studios from 450 a week online), travel card to the CBD fro work and a few beers on the weekend? I know this is quite different as each persons lifestyle is unique but any feedback, people experiences of this would be gratefully received. Thanks for reading guys
  7. Can anybody else shed some light on this thread too? Be great to hear from people in a similar situation. Thanks
  8. Yeah that would be the kind of budget we would be working with. Great to hear that you got a nice apartment for a similar budget to ours. We would just be looking to get by weekly and enjoy our weekends really.
  9. Hi guys. Really broad question as I know a lot of people's lifestyles are different etc but really what would be a minimum weekly take home wage for a couple to live a comfortable life on in Sydney? By looking on websites, if we were earning say 600 aud a week each in a job after tax, so 1200 weekly for both of us, would this be enough to rent a small studio, buy groceries, pay bills and go for a few beers on a weekend? We're both thinking of making the move next year and want to get some figures sorted out. I know it's a difficult question to answer but would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks
  10. Thanks for the info Paul - all sounds very promising. When are the busiest times for work? How many days a week on average are you getting? How's the lifestyle in QLD? Sorry for so many questions but is hard to find out information. Thanks again mate
  11. Thanks for that wolvesaussie. I have sent a few emails to agencies in Sydney, Melbourne and perth and have had a variety of responses. There does seem to be CRT work around in Sydney and Melbourne but you need to get your fav known around schools first. Still lots to find out but looking a little more positive I suppose
  12. Thanks again for the replies. Just trying to gather as many facts and information as I can before I decide. Thanks again
  13. Thanks for your replies guys. Sammy I did the 4 year BA in primary education degree so I'm covered on that one. Would a state such as NSW offer me a sponsored visa? Or am I going to have to go down the WHV do you think? This is my last resort obviously and I am aware that you can only work for one employer for 6 months at a time. Anyone any idea on the amount of work on offer in Sydney? I've no problem travelling around an hour to get to the suburbs to work. Thanks again you've all been a huge help
  14. Thanks for the reply. Think we're going down the WHV route, which is why I was wondering about CRT as I know you can only have one employer for 6 months. Lots of other teachers are on the List other than primary - just my luck ha! How does the CSOL list work then? If the occupation is on that list do we stand a better chance of getting a different visa? Many thanks
  15. Hi, only my second post here so please be kind. I apologise in advance for the fact that many a question has been asked about CRT in Australia but I couldn't find an up to date link. Im interested in moving over to oz. I am a primary school teacher with 5 years experience and I am currently on the senior management team at my school in the UK. I am aware that permanent jobs are near on impossible to come by in Australia but I am very kenn about CRT. Does anyone on the forum currently do CRT? Would Sydney or Melbourne offer more opportunities? I would need to be working at least three days per week supply to make it pay. I am open to other cities also. Can anyone recommend agencies to use? Sorry for for all the questions but I am really wanting to come over but need to collect all the facts first. Thanks in advance
