  1. Hey Stacey I'm from Salford. Where in Brissy are you moving to?
  2. When we enquired re state sponsorship a couple of years ago, there was only QLD that required $38,000 dollars as a visa requirement for state sponsorship.
  3. Hi We got our visa's in December 2011. We used an agent & I would recommend it as I found the support really useful. A friend of ours applied independently & had no issues atall. However, another friend applied independently & missed some small print, therefore missed the deadline to have their medicals & had the whole application refused. Consequently losing all their money aswell :err: So I suppose it's hard to say. I would recommend our agents if you were using one http://www.immigrationdownunder.co.uk BlueBell
  4. Thanks, I have this morning emailed some agents so hopefully they'll give me some info by morning.
  5. We are moving to the Gold Coast in June 2012. My hubby is a highly skilled & hard working joiner with 15 years experience. He has ran his own successful joinery firm for 5 years. He will be looking for employment in the Gold Coast or Brisbane from June 2012. If anyone can give us any advice on any firms that are recruiting, any good recruitment agencies for construction or even any contacts they have that could assist us?? It would be really appreciated??? I spend loads of time 'googling' but could really use any advice or guidance anyone can give?? Thanks
  6. Moving to Gold Coast in June. Hubby is a joiner so we have been told he probably won't be able to secure a job offer until recruitment agencies meet with him face to face once we are in Oz. Therefore, in our 1st 4 weeks we are going to have to secure work & a long term rental. :err: What paperwork will real estate agents want to see??? We sold our home here in Dec 2010 & currently live with my mum, so have no current mortgage stmt's etc. Will a letter of a new job offer be enough or will we need references (who off??)?? Any help would be really appreciated?? Also, on that note, do you think 4 weeks in a holiday let is realistic??
  7. We are moving to Gold Coast in June 2012 with our 4 children. We need a short term rental until we can sort job & longer term rental, but being 6 of us our options seem very limited. Seem to find lots of apartments suitable for couples or large/expensive houses. Been looking on homeaway.com.au & stayz Can anyone suggest any other websites please?? :jiggy:
  8. We are from Salford. Hubby is a joiner & we will be moving to Gold Coast in June 2012 with our 4 kids! :em3600:
  9. Hi there We are moving to the Gold Coast in June, my husband is also a joiner. We have very similar concerns... How easy will he find it to get work?? What will his salary be?? Can we afford the rent?? We are moving with 4 young children, so would be very grateful of any info?? Thanks BlueBell :em3600:
  10. It is a bit gutting to pay a mortgage for 12 years & then walk away with nothing, but there are people that were hit harder than us during the last couple of years so I'm not complaining :0) We haven't booked anything yet. Got lots of quotes for flights, shipping, holiday rental, longer term rental etc. We are hoping to go in June, so we are gonna give it another month or 2 post-xmas to research the job/wages situation & when things look a little more positive we will book flights. You are very lucky having family to go over to. We have planned this move for 5+ years now, so we didn't have to tell family as such, its kind of always been something thats been on the cards. I've been at home with my kids since they were babies. Went back to work when my 6 year old started school as a NVQ2 Teaching Assistant, but then got pregnant with baby number 4. So my hubby will be the only bread winner for a while.
  11. My hubby is also 31! Our kids are 10, 8, 6 & 4 months! We sold our house in the recession at a loss, so unfortunately have to rent for the long-term (which seems very expensive, another big worry!!) ( Very exciting times, but the financial butterflies are kicking in now Christmas is over & the move is becoming a reality.
  12. Sounds as though you are in a very similar situation to us. We also have to be out there for October 2012. We too have been pain-stakingly trawling thru all the various recruitment websites, but its soul destroying when there seems to be nothing. I'm starting to lose sleep over this as we have 4 small children. So well accustomed to 'getting by' as we are with very little left in the copper pot, its totally different on the other side of the world with no support. My hubby has always secured jobs based on reputation & past contacts & has never had to apply/interview for a job so this is all new to us. Like you say, its probably a case of getting over there & getting on to the sites, but we will have absolute bare-minimum funds to last whilst we do that so he will need to find something in the first couple of weeks....(
  13. Hi there We are making the big move over to Oz in June & have decided to head to the Sunshine Coast. My husband has a 175 Skilled Independent Visa. We are hoping he can secure a job before we go as this will take the pressure of us financially, but there isn't much on offer for Carpenters around Brisbane & the Sunshine Coast (or indeed anywhere). Can anyone advise how easy he will find it to get work in Oz?? Can he expect to struggle to find work? Also, what are the earnings roughly for an experienced Joiner/Carpenter?? Look forward to hearing from u...
  14. Thanks for your advice! The job websites are great, thankyou. We are still researching our options. I thought actually making the decision to emigrate was the 'Biggest' decision lol )
  15. We have just received our permanent visa & are moving over to Oz in June 2012 with our 4 children (10, 8, 6 & 0). My husband is a Joiner/Carpenter. We have always planned to go to Queensland within an hour of Brisbane, either Gold or Sunshine Coast. We don't know anyone there. Recently, 5 different families that we know well have moved/or are moving to Perth & I also have some family there. I am now wonderring whether we should stick to our original plan & go to Queensland in the hope of making new friends, or go where we will know friends/family already in WA? I don't really want to move again once we are there, so really want to make the right decision. Can anyone offer any advice???
