  1. I became a citizen on Australia day last month. I have my citizenship certificate and am due to collect my passport on Monday, from the passport office. The issue is that my immigration account still says approved and my vevo still has my PR visa as in effect. Should I be worried, should I ignore it and is there anyone in particular I should contact, or should I just wait it out? Thanks a million.
  2. Believe what you want dude, but its true. Whether you want to split hairs or not.
  3. Does anyone know how long it takes from the ceremony date, to actually being classed as a citizen by immigration? .I became an Australian on the 26th of last month, but my immi account is still showing as approved and hasn't changed to finalised. My VEVO still says resident too. I would like to apply for my passport ASAP as I'm due to travel back for a visit to Ireland next month, but the passport office still can't verify my citizenship certificate as it looks like it hasn't been added to the system yet. Anyone got any timeframe ideas? Thanks a million.
  4. You can definitely leave. Jut make sure you lodge your application in Australia and while you are away, it will not be considered. They will only move on it while you are onshore. As said above, make sure you have plenty of time on your right to return on your PR visa, although if it was only granted in March, you should be fine because they usually come with a 5 year travel facility. In terms of a 2 year process, it might be... BUT, it seems to depend entirely on where in Australia you are located. I became a citizen on Wednesday and my process was 5 months, from lodgement to the ceremony, so I'd take any suggested timelines with a pinch of salt, but be aware that you might have a really short wait, all the way up to the 2 years quoted. No one really knows. Good luck.
  5. Well, it finally happened. I can now say I am an Irish/Australian. Beautiful ceremony on Wednesday and I'm looking forward to lodging my passport application. Good luck to everyone still on the long journey. I promise it is worth it.
  6. Well, it finally happened. I got my citizenship this morning, the end of a very long journey. It feels absolutely incresible. Good luck to everyone still waiting. I promise it is worth the wait.
  7. Yeah, I'm in QLD, but in a very remote, small community so I half expected that. I'm pretty sure I personally know every other person getting their citizenship next week. We've been getting really excited about it.
  8. Thanks so much Toots! I can't believe it. Its been such a journey. Yes, still up here in the Torres, still loving it but a little bit of me will always be a North West Tasmanian. hope you're well!
  9. Thank you! Of course, I'm located in the Torres Strait, so Torres Shire Council.
  10. I got my ceremony invitation yesterday! Woohooh! 26th of January. lodged mid August 2021, test and approval 15th November 2021, ceremony scheduled for the 26th. Good luck everyone! Its coming.
  11. Sat my test this morning and passed. (100%) super easy and the lady was so friendly and made me feel less stressed. My immi account changed to approved almost instantly. Cant believe I've only got one more step to go! So, now just the wait for a ceremony.
  12. Got my invite for interview and test today! Applied 20th August 2021. Interview and test scheduled for 15th November. Excited but nervous also!
  13. Hi Toots! Yeah, very different to little old Devonport! I miss Tassie hugely, but I got the opportunity to head up the High Risk foot Service in the Torres Strait and I just couldn't say no, it's the most exceptional opportunity of my lifetime! Hope you're doing well. I was supposed to be back down for a holiday at the moment, but what with this Delta trouble, I thought it best to stay where I am. Plus I'd hate to get stuck elsewhere and for the Hospital to lose one of it's clinical services, just so I could have a holiday. I'd love a break though hahaha! Just as I imagine most healthcare workers across the globe would too! Hope you're doing fantastically well and thanks for the Citizenship "love." Can't wait to become an Irish/Aussie!
  14. Can finally join the thread! Been in Australia almost 5 years, and finally applied for Citizenship yesterday. Torres Shire Council. SO excited!
