Hello again! I planned my appointments purely by contacting various hospitals and asking for the OT departments (while i was planning the trip so still in the UK!!) They were all really obliging with me and straight away I had a good feel about it! I can email you my contacts if you feel they'll be useful x From the moment we landed in oz we felt relaxed! People are chilled out! We think we will end up north of the river and i have yet to look into Joondulup hospital as i think that is more of a community hospital that offers rehab (which i like) and a good mental health service (which i also like!). Yes, I am the main VISA applicant, my hubby is an electrical engineer. We have a 5 and a 3yr old. I did my skills assessment in summer 2009 so it's a bit dated now for me to offer advice. My next step is to apply for registration so I'm in a position to job hunt when the time comes! It's frightening when you think of all that needs doing eh!

Hiya

We too are thinking of either Adelaide or Perth. I'm pulled toward Perth for some reason, I'm not sure why. Did you set up your OT appointments via an agency? It will be interesting to see how different (or not) OT is in another country. I need to look into what I need to do to validate my qualification, etc, as it seems to have changed a bit recently. Are you the main applicant for your VISA? There's so much to look into, I honestly don't know where to begin! Do you know when you'll be going? Do you know which area you want to eventually live? We hope to do a reccie prob early next year, if not sooner. We've a 3 year old and hope that he'll travel ok!

Cheers

Hi Sunshine!

Yes we did a recci last March to both Adelaide and Perth and chose Perth. I'm currently working in mental health- memory services in East Lancs. During our visit I had 3 appointments with OT's in Perth; two mental health and one physical but no job offers. To be honest it was far to soon but was brilliant to visit and get a feel for OT in Oz. I think that when we get the visa i will start applying as will need to secure a post that offers the practical side of the skills assessment. Will feel much better with a job offer before we go but more than likely I will be looking for one when we land 'scary'!! Good luck with it all, are you visiting australia? speak soon, linzi x

Hi there

Another qualified OT here, though working as a Mental Health community worker for local authority, as OT jobs are few and far between here in Devon <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I just wondered if you've secured an OT post in Oz? Myself and hubby are still deciding what to do regarding Oz, but I would be the main applicant if we decide to apply. Perth does appeal to us. Have you done a reccie?

Cheers
