Thank you for your kind words. What's upsetting is my wife is my priority and I would not be without her under any circumstances and the fact that she doesn't want to go back makes it hard. We have spoken and she has said she will be happy to move elsewhere in Aus but just not back to the UK. I'm thinking a trip back see how it goes and take it from there. Been here in Perth for 6 years this November and now citizens so Visa issues are not a problem. I must admit I've never really settled here but learned to get on and life was good, had a few bouts of home sickness but always got through it and generally life here has been good. However late last year I had a near death experience and had a lengthy stay in hospital and this has changed my outlook on life. Whilst I do appreciate what we have got here I now have the wish to go back home to the UK. I feel that my career has now stopped after going back 10 years already and I'm finding now that I want to spend more time with my grandchildren and my mother who is now nearly 80. Problem is the wife loves it here and has no desire to return to the UK which leaves me in a dilemma, I've discussed this with my wife and said that in an ideal world I'd love to go back to the UK initially for 5 years so my grandchildren get to know me and if I came back to Aus being teenagers they would know who grandad is and I could also spend some time with my mum. However as my wife has no emotional ties to the UK (not mother to my children) and her parents come over for 4 months every year she cannot see why I want to go back and has suggested a holiday to get it out of my system. Just dont know what to do as I'm so unhappy here now and spend every day wishing I was back in the uk! Heads Gone just don't know what to do.

Oh well thought I wouldn't be doing this again but here we are September 17 and still living here in WA, but boy what a year we've had ! After feeling unwell last August - September time I was admitted to hospital for a leg infection, whilst in hospital the hernia I'd had for years decided to play up and was sent for scans etc. Unfortunately for me my hernia had become strangulated without me realising and as a result of this my small bowel had died and therefore needed to be removed as a matter of urgency as my tummy had turned a real dark blackish colour. So two operation's later to cut out my small bowel , rejoin what was left and repair my hernia I found myself bed ridden for the next couple of months , and then started an extensive spell of rehab. All in all I was in Fiona Stanley for nearly 4 1/2 months and nearly died 3 times. Having come to terms with this i've spent the last 6 months recovering at home and generally trying to get back to normality. However this experience has made me realise that life is too short and has subsequently led me to wanting to return back to the UK to spend time with my grandchildren and mother who is now nearly 80. So i've gone from being relatively happy living here to very unhappy and wanting to return to the UK and live. We will see what happens but at least I'm still breathing and getting back to good health. Thanks for reading

Well time sure flies when your having fun they say, last week it was mission accomplished for me and the wife, we got our citizenships and I must admit I even enjoyed the ceremony. So those of you that know me know that I only do a yearly update , however I think this will be my last update, I will still lurk and read posts but not so much to post about. I just want to reassure those people who are insecure, worried, homesick, fed up, bored etc etc just keep going things will work out for you in the long run. Many times I've battled the pull back to the UK , however common sense has prevailed and I'm still here living in WA. I'm not going to brag but wanted to share our accomplishments with you to show it can be done. We arrived in November 2011 with approx $20,000 to our name, 4 suitcases and 10 small tea chest boxes which turned up 8 weeks late lol. In the time here we have found work, then when I lost my job I started my own business which touch wood is doing well. Built our own house with a pool, nice new car, boat, plus a few toys. We have managed this by embracing what Australia had to offer us and worked hard. No it might not be all that it's cracked up to be here in WA but it's a hell of a lot better than what the UK could offer me. So if your feeling down go and do something completely Australian that you couldn't do back in the UK, crank up the stereo with a good Aussie song crack open a beer and take a look around you, worked for me in my darkest hours. Thank you everyone for your kind words, I will still lurk on here but just not post as I don't have a lot to say really other than I'm enjoying life!

Oh well it's that time of year again when I make my visit to PIO and post my yearly update. Still here in Perth Metro area been in our own house for Over 2 years already things have gone quite well this year, my wife has been promoted at work and is starting to make good progression in her chosen career and is now earning more than me when we got here lol Having had 3 years of being bullied and harassed at work I took the risk and started my own company with a trusted friend we've been very fortunate and this has turned into a profitable construction business within its first year. Don't get me wrong we've had no salary hardly and everything earned has been reinvested or gone on wages etc however were getting there and should see the benefits of this in the new year. We are now in the process of applying for our citizenship which to be honest I never thought we'd reach. Those of you who know my story will remember how we struggled on limited budget when we got here ($15,000) my bouts of home sickness and feeling isolated and depressed and the guilt having left my grandchildren in the UK. However we have stuck to it and now things are so much better I've not had one bout of home sickness at all this year and my relationship with my daughter in particular has gone from strength to strength thanks FaceTime lol Life is great not perfect but so much better than the UK and I now realise what an amazing opportunity we have been given and I thank you Australia for accepting us in your wonderful country. No matter how bad it feels you must keep wanting more and push through and you will get there in the end. On a bad day go do something completely Australian you will soon forget your worries and doubts. Embrace this country for what it is and you will be better for it in the long run. For me my journey as a migrant has come to an end and I now feel wanted and will gladly take up citizenship if granted. This will probably be my last post on here and I would like to thank the forum of 2009-2011 for all their help, guidance and support both during my divorce, my visa application and my wedding to my beautiful 2nd wife back in 2011 of which none of this would of been possible without her. I met my old school friend from the UK who I hadn't seen for over 20 years and he lives just down the road lol

Only immigration can cancel your visa. Your ex employer can only inform immigration you are no longer working and request the visa is cancelled. It is then up to immigration to cancel your visa. We have a guy at work who has left and is back in the uk and asked if we could cancel his visa and the above is what we were told.

Renew the passport and get it linked so much easier. Trust me been there done that one lol
