  1. Just received a letter from Queensland Parliament inviting us to a Citizenship Ceremony on 6th June 2021. We live on the northern Gold Coast and thought the notification would come from the City Council. Anyway, looks like our journey is coming to a end and it will be a relief to finally call this place home - officially!!
  2. Thats not too bad. In my case, my wife has hers on the Thursday qt 9.45am and I have mine on the Friday at 8am.
  3. Ooops - just posted this in the old thread.... We received our letters of Invitation to Interview and Test on Friday, I was quite surprised how quickly this came through as we only applied in May this year! Is it normal for my wife and I have interviews on 2 different days, she's on the Thursday and I'm on the Friday? We applied at the same time through her IMMI account and I just assumed that we would go to the interview at the same time. Citizenship App: 02-May-2020 Test Invitation: 09-Oct-2020 Test Date: 13-Nov-2020 Approval: TBA Approval Letter Rcvd: TBA Ceremony: TBA Council: Gold Coast, QLD

  5. And now the BOE is talking about further reducing interest rates in the UK because of declining inflation. Interesting times!
  6. I'm not sure that travel insurance is adequate for your 457 visa. As far as I am aware, you need to take out a Private healthcare policy for you and your family. This is needed to cover you from the time you arrive in Australia to the time when you have Medicare. Its then up to you if you continue with private cover after Medicare has been granted.
  7. Wow - that is a long drive! We are having our 2 dogs collected and flown up to Gold Coast from Sydney for £250, its even cheaper if you don't do it on a Saturday.
  8. Think yourself lucky, I bought a brand new car last year on a pcp (we had no plans to emigrate then) - 6 months later the wife told me we were moving to Oz! When I hand it back in September, I'm also gonna have to stump up atleast a couple of grand to cover depreciation :-(
  9. One thing that will affect your price is the distance from the depot to your home and then to the port, the same will apply in Oz. We went with Pickfords and negotiated them down to £3200 from £3650 for a 20' container door to door. We decided we wanted to use Pickfords based on previous experience, but told them they would need to beat the best quote we had - they did! :-)
  10. Thanks for that - I'm going to take a look at them. That rate I quoted above was based on £10,000 - perhaps moneycorp aren't the most competitive...
  11. Who are you using and do they charge a fee? Moneycorp are showing at $2.08 v/s the interbank rate of $2.12 but don't charge a fee
  12. We have booked Pickfords for our move in October. To be fair, the guy who came round to quote sounded pretty similar to your experience but as we have used Pickfords before were not overly fussed because it's your move co-ordinator who you deal with and they always seem pretty good in our experience. We have been quoted £3,300 Norfolk to Brisbane, door to door. The rep suggested we got insurance elsewhere which we did through Letton Percival for £420, Pickfords quoted £1650 lol!
  13. We booked a Corporate Cabin for 28 days at Ashmore Palms after reading all the good reviews on here and other places. We like that we can arrive and relax and that there will be plenty of things for the kids to do. The cabins look basic, but have everything you will need for the first few weeks until you find a permanent home. Best bit was the price $490 per week :-)
