i'm new too to oz, living in freshwater for the last 3 months. bit like you in that in my 40's like the outdoors, the odd beer, dive and kayak. no surfing but plenty of surfers in this area, freshwater always has surfers out; and queenscliff or curl curl just round the corner. Manly plenty of choices socially. Can't help with whats its like to commute, but see plenty getting the ferry into the city daily. i certainly enjoy taking the ferry rather than the bus into the city, but its does take a little longer.

it is not required for AHPRA registration, but it is required for ANMAC for the full assessment (not sure about the modified assessment, if already registered with ahpra). if she is the primary applicant and you need the points for proficiency of english for the visa then you need an ilets or equivalent to prove your proficiency.

i decided to ship my car, it is in a 20 ft container; they build a frame around it, then pack all your belongings. i suppose the size of the car depends on how much stuff you can pack. i have a hyundai 130 and a 2 bedroom apt contents packed and sailing on their way to sydney. due to arrive 28th april, all being well.

i submitted my aphra application in mid may 2014, received end of may. i'm degree trained, anmac forwarded the docs to aphra, but they basically requested them all again, wanting their own copy of transcripts, verification of registration etc. i received my Letter of eligibility on 15th september 2014.

another consideration is taxation levels, I believe it is higher for temporary visa holders than for permanent residents.

i am planning to emigrate in March 2015. I've been offered a post in the northern beaches area of Sydney as a specialist nurse. its an exciting and nerve wracking time. so if anyone has any advice about the northern beaches area i'd love to hear it. :smile:
