    Holiday May 2016

Hi Eveyone, im hoping someone on here will be able to help/point me in the right direction. We are ver much undecided at the moment about moving down under, so what we have agreed to do is have a exploriatry holiday . I will be travelling to Australia about this time next year, mostly for holiday reasons. A bit like the wanted down under TV show, I do want explore potential job oppertunities, suberbs and property prices. I will not be working or getting paid. However I do want to visit a few places of work and possibly look at job shadowing for a 1 day period. I will not be buying any propety but I would like to have a few viewings. What sort of visa should I get for this?? would a standard holiday visa be suitable? if anyone can help that would be great!! Based on this visit I will be deciding weather I will be emigrating down under. We will probably go for 2 weeks and visit Melbourne, possibly Perth or Brisbane but not decided on that yet might just stop the 2 weeks in Melbourne. Kind Regards, Mitch

  6. Hi all, Me and my partner are looking to make the move to Victoria on a 190 visa, under building associate around Nov 2015. I will have 10 years expereince in construction, having started out bricklaying then moved my way up to being a site manager/construction supervisor. I currently work for a large main contractor in the UK working on commerical jobs £10million or above. Any information on similar work in Victoria would be gratly appreciated, it would be nice to here from people who are working under that same role as well. Mainly looking at potential job avaialability, potential salary, and any information on how salary is taxed in Victoria. Just a note me and my partner have been looking at Geelong as a place to settle, so any information on work there in particular would be great or just general information on the area. Thanks, Mitch
  7. Thanks @Petals will have to have a read into that, hopefully be ironed out by the time I get there though Thanks for your comment @wolvesaussie how long does the train journey take you then? what would you say are the top 5 areas in Geelong and 5 areas to stay away from in your opinion? Also does anyone know what the tax on salary is like in oz?? similar to UK, more , less?

  9. @bakersdozen cheers for getting back to me, luckily I havent got any breaks in my employment, but my 10 years in construction hasent always been management. Only the last 5-6 years really has been management experience. Good info to know though especially for others maybe. Ye I need to do the IELTS aswell, just going through the motions of practising in my free time, it is a bit of a ball ache lol. Good news on Canada though all the best mate.

  12. Thanks vickyplum & michaela for your info, very useful .... looks like I got 12 months of waiting and evidence gathering to do then I was hoping to get things moving sooner than that, never mind I can concentrate on my skills assessment and IELTS in the mean time I guess ... Thanks again to you both for your info.
  13. Ali - Thanks for the link - really useful Vickyplum- If you could send a list I would appreciate it, I'm in a similar situation with independant financies, as I more or less cover all the main bills and its a nightmare to change them over, so my partner jus transferes money over to me every month along with covering extra things like shopping, petrol etc. But I might do the same as you and just add the name on if that worked for you thanks again to you both really good info.

  15. Hi blossom79, thanks for your reply. Does it have to be living together a year? I was speaking to a migration agent and they said you have to be living together some of the time, but prove you have been together a year (they wouldnt give me anymore information for free lol). Joint bank account we have kind-of, we signed up with westpac (australian bank) early this month, is this accpetable? unfortunately the property is not leased. Again thanks for your reply
