  1. Thanks all. I've thought about moving for a long time, my son's condition just gave the determination to make it happen.
  2. Well, we're six month in and loving every minute. Our journey started to appear in the UK newspapers this week, will be run in a magazine next week, And Good morning Britain want us to do a live link on the show ( but we've kindly refused) . As you can imagine some papers have "modified" our story . http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/brit-family-emigrates-australia-after-9778025 made the front page off our home town paper http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/birmingham-family-emigrate-australia-because-12575580 my fav quote was from the sun newspaper "OZ move as boy allergic to Brum" anyway my journey started on these forums a few years back. Thanks to Pominoz members for all the advise!
  3. Hi kevsan, I'm looking for work now that we've settled, are any of these positions on the gold coast ? My LinkedIn profile if anyone wants to connect https://www.linkedin.com/in/mtdmitchell
  4. Ok, since my last update i have discovered that ASDL+2 is available from the local exchange, and i signed up with a company called Barefoot for an unlimited package. According to Barefoot there are no free ports at the local exchange, and telstra will not be upgrading the local exchange due to the pending NBN roll out ( IN THREE YEARS for my address!). Upon checking the telstra wholesale site it states there are 60+ ports available.I've just been into my local telstra shop and signed up for a BB package...just to see if they are just being arse's to the third party...i suspect that the local exchange is full and the wholesale site is out of date ( i hope I'm wrong). wouldn't normally be bothered but me and the wife depend on a decent connect for work ( back in the UK).
  5. Robina is nice ( one of the cheaper suburbs in the south GC), and not to far from the beautiful Burleigh. Also consider Varsity, reedy creek ( both really Nice) Burleigh waters, currumbin waters or currumbin ( very sort after areas though) . PS I've not seen a "rough" suburb on the GC yet..regards of what some say. I was out in Bonogin \ Mudgeeraba last week (which is only 15-20 mins from the beach) the houses where amazing, such a beautiful area and you'll get acreage if you wanted it. the further south you go, the higher the prices and more in demand the houses are. This is the same for some of the northern suburbs as well like southport and labrador. Loads of properties in Upper coomera and Helensvale, but if you want the beach life they're a bit far. We live in Palm beach
  6. I'm happy for you  doesn't help me though.
  7. Telstra, tpg and optus can't offer fixed but dodo can . No idea why
  8. Hello, We've been here a week now, managed to secure a 12 month rental in the palm beach area. Just looking into broadband options and it appears that we cannot get fixed line broadband! I've tried optus, telstra and tpg and they've stated its not possible, optus offered home broadband, which is a 4G enabled router. is this the same for all suppliers or do different providers have different coverage areas? seems a bit backwards, NBN hasn't started to roll out here yet either. ADSL and HFC are available according to the government site, which doesn't make sense. help
  9. Depends, once your granted a visa you need to visit the country within a year from the date of either the PCC or the medical (which ever was first completed ) or you can just move before the year is up. For example, we completed our PCC first of the two on the 25/11/14, meaning we had to enter the country to validate the visa before 25/11/15.
