  1. I've just finished my supervised practice, so there is hope! I managed to get the job ok, it was a case of knowing the process in and out and just applying for everything I could whilst infoming potential employers of what was involved. Only 5% were interested in going further but I did have a choice of three to go for. In the end I had to narrow it down to which was the best area for us all as we had to find schools too. It was tricky and stressful, and I had to work more hours than I wanted to around school drop offs and pick ups. The initial registration paperwork was ridiculous and it took ages to get the limited reg so that I could actually start, but once up and running it was pretty straight forward. It was made more difficult however because of the workplace culture, I witnessed some bullying and had to speak up, this in turn affected how I was treated by others in the team, fortunately my manager was supportive throughout. It was a very uncomfortable working environment and if I could have, I'd just have left and got another job or done some locum work, but knew I would have been back at square one an just had to get through it. Anyway it's all done now, I survived! Don't give up, it is possible.
  2. My eight year old has just bought an Alcatel Pixie, basic smart phone with his birthday money from his uncle. He hasn't got a sim in it and just uses it with wifi at home. He's quite happy strutting around the house pretending he's all grown up. When he's older and going to school independently I'll do PAYG as others have already recommended.
  3. Rental properties in Mount Eliza don't last long as it's a very nice area to live on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, with stunning beaches on the doorstep, close to wineries and lots of excellent public and private schools to choose from. 10 minutes to Mornington and Frankston and easy commute to the CBD. Four bed house with additional studio apartment in the garden big enough for double or twin beds, ideal for visiting guests or use as a home office. Master with ensuite, bathroom with separate shower, and laundry with additional shower and toilet. Kitchen with adjacent family room, dining room and living room. End of court location with friendly quiet neighbours. Previous tenants had a dog and we had no trouble moving here with a dog too. Rear undercover deck and lawn to the front with large carport and level spacious driveway. Current rent $470 per week. Please PM for further info and photos.
  4. My kid's school has sky blue polo shirts with a logo on bought from the Uniform shop but many kids have ones bought from Target, Kmart, Best and Less etc without a logo. The shorts or trousers are navy blue and can be bought from anywhere. They don't have a PE kit. They can wear white or black trainers. The hoodies or coats can be from anywhere as long as in the right colour (navy). So you can buy cheaply elsewhere or just from the uniform shop. Same with hats. Girls mostly wear the same as boys but have the option of a checked dress or navy skirt, most just wear polo shirts, shorts or trousers like the boys.
  5. I also had a recruitment consultant tell me that and I looked into it, however you need to put NZ employer details down on the reg application so don't see how this would be possible if actually intending to go to Australia directly.
  6. Hi Yefim, not that I'm aware of. Doing the stage 2 is the only way and I researched this extensively!!
  7. I've since found out that you need to do 12 months supervised practice if doing less than 30 hours per week. I only wanted to do 3 days as I have young children and don't want to chuck them into before and after school care whilst they're settling in, but now I'm going to work 30 hrs over 5 days to get the ordeal over with in 6 months so that I'm free to pick and choose work and possibly locum.
  8. I've had ulcerative colitis since 2000 and been been on steroids and immunosuppressants on and off since then, and listed for surgery three times (but escaped in the end!). My consultant wrote me a letter summarising my history which I took to the medical and the medical was referred as expected, but then after two weeks our visas were granted which was a relief for sure. I was expecting to be asked for further tests or info but obviously not required. I'm sure that you'll be OK.
  9. My boys are finishing primary school at Christmas as we leave for Melbourne, we've not been asked for anything at all.
  10. We fitted in 16 large seven seas boxes full of random stuff, a washing machine, 42" tv, large bicycle and kids 16" bicycle, tool box, small bistro set with 2 chairs, a large rug, dining table, king size mattress, 2 single mattresses and lots of other random stuff chucked in the gaps at the end!
  11. We're looking for somewhere for 2 adults and 2 children from 2/1/15 for 2-3 weeks. I booked somewhere in September but the owner has had a bad review which has put me off somewhat so searching for something else in the meantime. If anyone knows of something suitable east or south east of Melbourne please let me know. TIA :jiggy:
  12. Hi we're moving in January possibly to the south eastern suburbs from Mordialloc down into the Peninsula, perhapsas far down as Frankston South, Somerville or Mount Eliza. I know it's a large stretch but we're getting background before we arrive and can explore for real. I have two sons aged 7 and 6 and have emailed every school in this area to see if they have places. All have got back to me to say that they have, and only two are zoned. I was pleased about this as we have more flexibility over choosing a rental and area based on what we like when we arrive. I've been on their websites and cross referenced using this http://bettereducation.com.au/SchoolRanking.aspx which at a glance gives you the size of the school. My two boys are currently at a small school of only 108 pupils so going to a large one will be an experience! They are now in years 3 and 2 which will change to years 2 and 1 when they start the new term in Jan 2015.
  13. The Seven seas website has the cost of all the move cubes and they have a price calculator you can work through dependent on where you're shipping from and to. You can also buy their boxes and bubble wrap. We bought their large boxes and used them in our large move cube, they fitted perfectly along the long wall with 4 along the length and 3 high, so 12 took up that wall and that was slightly less than a third of the total volume.
