  1. Hi We are beginning the Citizenship application & have reached the request for travel section where we are asked to detail everywhere that we have lived since the age of 18. As we are originally from the UK we travelled in Europe a lot - do we need to detail all of these holidays?!? Also where you detail travel to other countries, do you have to enter that between each holiday you were living in the UK? Losing the will to live trying to remember/search for details of all our holidays Ross
  2. We've just moved over in February this year & filling our tax returns soon. We have around $50,000 from sale of our UK house, $40,000 of which we transferred over in February and the rest we are drip feeding as the rate improves. Do we need to declare this somewhere on our return?
  3. Ah yes sorry its the Working with Children check she needs - do you know if this can be done before arrival? I doubt it can as it wont flag up very much? Says it takes around 4 weeks, sometimes longer which is a bit of a pain. Her Level 3 certificate is away getting assessed by ACECQA just now - they indicated that with her 10 years experience she could possibly be assessed as an early years teacher but we played it safe for just now and went with the level she is at just now.
  4. We move to Adelaide next month & my wife is looking to get working in the Childcare sector asap (skills currently being assessed). Does anyone know if she needs to apply for an Australian police check as soon as she arrives? Can it be done beforehand?
  5. We got quotes from Doree Bonner & Pickfords. Both were very professional, doing a full house visit for over an hour & seemed to know their stuff. Pickfords came back slightly cheaper & I also liked the fact that its Pickfords in the UK & Pickfords in Australia so theres no passing the blame! Get a couple of quotes tho & compare
  6. I am emigrating next month & by chance my monthly mobile contract is due for renewal in March. I would like to keep the phone active (certainly for a few months) as I work for a small family business and want to have a bit of 'overlap' for Clients after I leave the business. Does anyone have experience of the cheapest network for receiving calls in Australia from the UK? I've just checked my network (O2) who are £1.49/min if I switched to PAYG or £0.80 if I stay pay monthly (business pays anyway). Are there any apps or ways around this with the modern worlds of technology & social media??
  7. Hi We are emigrating to Adelaide and have bought a few bits & pieces from an Outlet discount placey as they can give tax refund receipts. But does anyone know/have experience of which high street stores can also do this? Thinking maybe Debenhams, House of Fraser etc? Thanks
  8. Try Viator for the lounges - I've found them to be cheaper than direct at some places. Also, sign up to their emails & download their app as they do discounts of 8% & 10% fairly regularly. I've used them for different things over a few years & never had any issues
  9. Reading the Qantas website, it would appear that on domestic flights pets, in suitable carriers, can be taken as part of your baggage allowance? i.e. instead of taking a suitcase you can take a pet carrier. Has anyone had any experience of this? We're trying to work out the best way to get our cat from Melbourne to Adelaide after she leaves quarantine!
  10. One thing to consider is if you are looking to get your card etc before you leave. We opened a joint account which means to get our cards before we leave we both have to go to London before we leave. If we had single accounts we could have done one here & the 2nd when we arrived :-/
  11. They should have shown that at the end of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow instead of the cheesefest they had!
  12. ok, i give up! how do u make an international transfer on Paypal? Ive signed into my account & the new layout looks lovely but to do anything i seem to need an email address or mobile number which the recipient has registered to receive payments!
  13. Quick question on movecubes - if you put a chest of drawers in, are you then allowed to fill the drawers with stuff?? Or does it have to be able to be lifted out?
  14. Has anyone been to any of the Working Abroad Expos? Just received an email about a round of them in September, tickets for £5. Are they any use? They talk of Government officials etc being there but how much of the event is relevant to Australia?
  15. How much are they looking for Froggles? Getting transport for our cat sorted is my task this week!
