  1. This may seem like a rant but I want to make everyone aware of the terrible service I have received recently from what was one of the better airlines. My family and I fly Emirates regularly (3 times a year Perth to London return) when I purchased my recent flights and paid for them I was horrified to see that they now charge extra to reserve seats. It is in very small print on their site in a very obscure place. To book my 4 seats it cost and extra $544 for the 4 flights. Disgusting and they would not budge. This puts their price up in line with Singapore who are in my opinion, are far better airline. So we booked our recent trip, booked and paid for the seats and selected flights that involved the A380. It's a much more comfy and quiet plane with wifi etc. We left Perth on the the 19th January. The packs that are promised for the kids were not available, there were no hot towels and the food was below average. When we landed in Dubai as we touched down, icy cold water poured all over my young children and flooded the galley from a faulty air conditioning unit. Both my boys had to wear a jacket and blanket for the entire second flight as they were soaked. These things happen but they were not interested. Second flight they got ther packs etc. we were then informed that the flight had changed on return from Dubai to Perth to the smaller 777 aircraft and the seats that we had been ripped off with had been changed. i called to ask to change flights so we could fly on the a380 as we had paid more for the particiular flights. I understand the terms state that aircraft can change but they want me to pay $1900 to change to a later flight that day. This is disgusting as they have changed it in the first place. Was on hold for 40 minutes....they simply didn't care less. We have experienced 8 hour delays previously, faulty toilets and forced overnight stays in Dubai cutting holidays short. The service has gone down hill fast...they have become too big to care about passengers and the service on board is terrible. I for one will never book or fly wit them again. The extra charge for seats selection and rediculous charges to make changes to changes they have made have made me so angry. If I were you I would look at the other airlines before considering emirates. This is my opinion of course but for those of you that don't know of these policies, I would like to think I have saved somebody from making the same mistakes.
  2. Thanks for the reply. I will be looking to change my 457 to a 186 this year. A friend applied for a 187 and his company had to advertise his job. He was not transitional though so hope this is not the case for me. Can't seem to find any info.
  3. Hi does anybody know if your employer has to advertise your position to the local market when applying for a transition visa 457 to 186. I understand you do when applying the direct way. 187 Thanks in advance
  4. Thanks for your replies and sorry for the delay in replying....Its weird that my internet keeps dropping off now that I have made an official complaint. The biggest problem is their inability to speak and understand proper English. Every reply from them has been the same regardless of my questions and it is even weirder that they all have very english names!! I have now passed my complaint on to The TIO so thanks for the heads up. I will keep you updated on this as I am sure a lot of you will face this problem at some time. When I read this back it does sound a little racist but I can assure you I am not. This is what it has done to me and many more I am sure.
  5. I never actually got my documents certified after advice from a migration agent. I was advised that people from the UK were exempt. I had not problems with getting my visa unless things have changed in 15 months??
  6. Hi, I have been out here now for 15 months. We are moving to a brand new house 10 kms north of where we live now. I asked my Broadband and Phone provider to move the service despite it costing $130 to simply push a switch. Unfortunately they cannot provide the service at the new house. This is where it has got nasty. I signed up for the package on line and then received a call advising me of time scales etc. No signature. Now it appears I signed up for 24 months!!!! The original call with the sales department was with Australian and English speaking staff. Now I can only get hold of a call centre in India where I have been informed that although they can't offer the service at the new address I still have to pay the remaining 10 months contract £498. The company in question are TPG. Whilst I am sure they have many happy customers!!!!!! I would not recommend them at all. Whilst they seem to offer the best deal its clear now why. In my opinion their customer service is terrible. I spent over 45 mins trying to get them to understand my dilemma only to be told that I was in contract and that there was nothing they could do. They advised me that I should not be moving to a new house so soon!! Be ware of signing contracts here. Even buying a pair of Uggs online is excepting a contract. My wife ordered a pair and had to wait 8 weeks despite the website saying next day delivery. When she called to cancel the order she was advised that she had entered a contract and that she would have to wait another 4 weeks before she could cancel...and then a further 4 weeks for a refund. You do the maths......
  7. Tuners are very cheap. $20 - $50. I brought my Samsung LCD tv over and found that if I selected the German setup within the UK tv it actually works here in OZ. My panasonic TV does not so it depends on the make I think.
