  1. Hi there, I've heard that shipping containers can get pretty hot on the open seas. Any thoughts on what not to ship to avoid temperature damage? (e.g. I'm taking all my photographic slides on the aircraft, rather than shipping them). Dave.
  2. Hi there, We're doing a fairly small move (groupage) of a little furniture and lots of personal effects. We've had a couple of companies do an on-site estimate of the volume but the estimates are quite different. They both say that the final price would be based on the actual volume once everything is packed. Have people had experience of the final price coming down, if the final volume is less than the estimate? (assuming we go with the high estimate company but the low estimate turns out to be correct) Dave.
  3. No. They're metal tubular legs that are welded together. The table-top does come off though though which might help a bit.
  4. Hello all, I'm shortlisting companies for a move to Sydney. We don't have much stuff, some furniture and about 20 boxes (maybe). Estimates are about 250 cu.ft. I've got quotes from a number of companies based on my inventory, which are all pretty similar (in terms of £/cu.ft), but I'm currently leaning to Excess International because they're the only ones that have offered to come out and do an inspection. I think that would be useful for me to both see if I've missed something substantial in my estimating, and get some tips on packing (pedals off bikes, that sort of thing). Has anyone else had experience with them or any advice? Thanks, David.
  5. It's a seventies-era formica topped table that my wife found in a second hand shop. I think it's replaceable. She thinks it's unique. Seems likely we'll be taking it :-)
  6. Hello all, We are shipping a few items of furniture to Australia, one of which is a metal-framed smallish kitchen table. According to a couple of online estimators this is estimated to consume something like 30 cu.ft. The legs don't collapse so it'll take up a fair volume but presumably several boxes could be packed within that space. In other people's experience will it really take 30 cu.ft of space? In which case it's not worth taking (at about £5.70 / cu.ft according to my calculations), or do they actually pack more efficiently than that? Thanks, Dave.
  7. Worldship Shipping seem to have quoted a good price but I can't seem to find them with a Google-search (unless they really are the UPS service that comes up). Do you have a link so I can add them to my list? Thanks, Dave.
  8. Can I make a "me too" request for a PM on the rogue company? I'm also going through this process (London - Sydney in my case). Thanks.
