  1. I currently use my mobile phone contract for my internet at home too. Unlimited data package with average speed of 4.5mbps. Just use the phone as a wifi hotspot. Saved quite a bit from having a separate home internet land line. Was thinking along those lines, but looks like I too will have to adjust my data habits. We will be renting a room off a very nice lady who doesn't have the internet in her house as she has a sim card for her i-Pad (other generic tablet computers are available) rather than a land line internet connection and as we are not entirely sure how long we are going to be living there we didn't want to commit to a land line fixed term contract. I have looked into buying a mobile WiFi hotspot, which I am guessing is just a router which uses a sim card for the connection, of which looks like a good option as we will be able to take that with us if we move. I will just have to make use of freely available WiFi when I am out and about.
  2. Thanks. I had done a bit of research on Google and thought I may be missing a trick, but does look like there are no unlimited data plans available at the moment. I have since been monitoring my internet usage to see what sort of plan I should look at. I have also been looking at the portable WiFi hotspots, they also look like a good option.
  3. Hi all, My wife and I had our 189 Visa granted last month and we are landing in Perth on 31st May  quaking in our boots with excitement! I have been looking online at mobile phone contracts and seem to be struggling to find an unlimited data plan. The room we will be initially renting doesn't have internet access and I would imagine we will be heavy Skype users for the foreseeable future so didn't want to get stitched on excessive charges. We would also lean more towards a rolling months contract type of deal. Is there a provider who offers this or am I just going to have to put my hands deeper in my pocket? MM
  4. My 189 application. finally got lodged yesterday, which is great as I miss the payment increase scheduled for 1st September Reading a few pages in this thread, seems like the fun is about to begin. I am applying to go to Perth as an Electronic equipment trades worker and my aim is to leave the uk January/February 2014. Fingers crossed.
  5. Thanks for all the replies, it has proved very helpful
  6. Hello, My wife and I are in the process of our 189 visa application and I have just successfully completed the Technical Interview. All thats left now is a few dot and crosses then we will be lodging our application. Now the next stage once the application is submitted are the medicals, which is fine. However my wife had her thyroid removed last year which was very successful and she is now in good health. However she is now on medication for life, more specifically hormone replacements, calcium tablets and vitamin D. How do we go about finding out about the medication she requires in Oz? We would need to probably arrange something before we go as it is critical for her body to function. I guess my main concerns are cost and availability. We have asked our local GP for advice but are getting very little cooperation. Has anyone had to do anything similar with themselves or a partner? Any input would be gratefully received. Thanks. Mark.
  7. No, I haven't started looking yet as like you say, no one will be interested unless you have a moving date. As you could imagine, potential employers probably get thousands of enquiries from the uk, where in reality only a small perecentage will actually make the move. Shame about the house, good luck with the resale and the move.
  8. For some reason my post has been added into your thread, when I was aiming to start a new one, apologies. I cant seem to see how to rectify this either.
  9. Thought I would take this oppurtunity to say a little bit about ourselves. Me and my wife (both 32, no children) decided to take the plunge last year and started gathering all the information for our emigration visa. We will hopefully be landing in Perth sometime this year. I have completed the IELTS and the initial VETASESS and am now awaiting.....sorry dreading, my skills test. I am currently an electronic fire and security systems commissioning engineer with various role expierience through the trade and my wife is a qualified chef and currently working as a sous chef. Our house sale is currently going through and my parents will house us until/if out visas get approved. We were going to wait but we thought with the way the housing market is accross Europe at the moment, if any opportunity came, to take it, so we did. Fingers crossed it completes soon. We are planning on doing a little bit of travling through the Asias on route too, so will actually be landing with just our backpacks. To be honest, I have taken the application way too laid back until recently, I guess it is all becoming serious now with big money changing hands for the skills assesment. So I have taken to the internet and have found this site already amazingly helpful. I will apologise now as I will probably end up asking silly questions that have probably been asked a thousand times. Thanks.
