Hi, I have written a thread before but didn't get a great response (I think i posted it in the wrong category). I have an opportunity to move over with my wife and 2 young kids (oldest is 3yrs). We would be on 457 visa. My salary would be 90-100k a year on top of that 9.25 superannuation (?). I get private medical for myself only and up to 10% annual bonus. My place of work will be in Sydney CBD (NSW2000). Advise on were to look for a 2/3 bedroom property with a less than 45min commute? Rough cost for rent and breakdown of utility costs? Thank you S

Hi, I hope you could give me some advise. I have an opportunity in Sydney CBD that pays 90-100k on top of that is the superannuation. I get private healthcare for myself only and up to 10% annual bonus. i am married with 2 kids (3yr old & 10month old). I am awaiting what visa/sponsorship we will all get. Is this enough? We do not need a huge house with all luxuries but want to know that i would not battle to find some cash to take the family out once a week or so. this potentially will be a 2 yr job maybe longer. Q1 - Where can i look for a good family suburb to rent with transport into the city centre (less than an hour) Q2 - Do i need private healthcare for my whole family as i believe as UK citizens we entitled to the government healthcare Q3 - What age do schools start and i believe we would have to pay for our oldest. any rough idea on cost? Q4 - Can you give me a rough cost on utility costs a month (gas,elec, internet, water etc) Q5 - Cost to buy/lease a car? i know it is a lot to ask but hopefully someone can help a little. Thank you

Thanks RugbyLad. Does anyone know the rough expenses cost for a 2 bed unit? All expenses excl food and entertainment. I was looking in the Sutjerland area as people mentioned that is a nice area (is this true?) I can find decent 2 bed for 400 and less a month with a daily commute of 35min. I have now figured that we will struggle if I accept this job but I struggle here at the moment too. A change of scenery with sunny skies and happy people might be worth it to some.

I work in London at present. I earn 27k and my wife earns 14k part time. We live just outside the CBD with a 50min commute to work for me. We pay 1200 per month for a sml 2 bed flat in a decent location. All other outgoings come to about £900. The there is still food and petrol ect. Now the reason for considering relocation is for a better lifestyle for my family (we have a 16montb old boy) I am originally from South Africa and my wife Brazil, so the outdoor lifestyle is what we love. If we say they offer me 70k so I take home 4550 a month after tax. Will I be worse off than my expenses above? My wife will definitely find work at least part time.

I think I worded the above wrong. The job location is in 2010 postcode not where we want to live. So the question is: What are good locations with a decent commute to Surrey Hills (45min)? I have just spoken to the company. The salary is between 65-75k per year. Is this ok until my wife finds work? Thanks for all the replies so far.

Hello, I hope you can help. I have been headhunted for a job offer working as an Asst. Chief Engineer. I have no idea what an ideal comfortable salary would be or where is best to live. I am married with 1 young child so a 2/3 bed property (rent) with no more than a 45min commute would be ideal. So the question is: What is a good/reasonable salary to live (my wife would work eventually too)? Where is a decent area/s to live with good transport to sydney centre (2010 postcode)? I have no idea about the costs involved in living in sydney or surrounds so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
