  1. Also in Adelaide, 2 years, young kids at school, bought a house in the Hills, husband very very happy in his job (former NHS) and I'm struggling to know where to start looking for part time work......hmm few similarities here! We love it for all the reasons Snifter has said, we get koalas in our garden and cockatoos flying past every evening, how cool is that?! Leaving the comfort zone of friends and familiarity wasn't easy, but was actually way easier for us than I was expecting. The town we live in (Blackwood) is friendly and has a community feel so reminds me of the good bits of the UK, plus local shops and people who want to retain that local vibe. It's been hard starting again to make friends and a support network but I wouldn't move back to the UK in the near future - maybe one day.
  2. Sorry Andrew, I've just found this thread and I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm having a nightmare trying to find anyone who will look at re-mortgaging because we have an Australian address! I wish I'd known this before we came out but we only thought we'd stay for 2 years..... Please could you pass on the brokers details?
  3. Fab thanks! It's taken days of searching for me to fail to answer that question so I really appreciate it!
  4. Hello! Can anyone help me to understand if we have any tax allowances in the UK if we come to Oz on a 457? I've done lots of google searching but not found an answer I can understand. I've looked into registering as a 'non resident landlord' and having our rental income taxed by the agency who manage the house, and I would expect this to be the case if we were PR in Oz, but what about temporary residents? Do we still get any tax free allowance for income in the UK, or do we have to pay 20% on everything?? If anyone can recommend a decent tax accountant in the UK who knows his expat/ temp resident stuff, that would be great as our local one doesn't. I've just spent 2 (useless) hours on the HMRC website and I'm still non the wiser! Thank you!
  5. Thanks everyone, think I'll try and negotiate the price down with Crown and go with them as by the sounds of it PSS are being overly optomistic and the others more realistic!
  6. Hi, Newbie here, first post! We're due to head out to Oz mid April and plan to send out stuff early April, so it would be really useful to know how long your containers actually took to arrive? We have had 3 quotes for 550 cft for groupage from Crown, Doree Bonner and PSS: Crown - time estimate 12 - 16 weeks (verbal) Doree Boner - 12 - 16 weeks (verbal) PSS - 6 - 9 weeks (estimated, written on quote), 10 - 12 weeks (verbal) I've phoned PSS to ask why they quote a shorter length of time and his response was that he couldn't understand why the others were quoting so long. Given that the cost estimates are all quite similar - £2800 plus AQUIS, I would go with the quicker company (PSS) so we don't have to sit on the floor for an extra month in an unfurnished rental! However, how long do they really take?? :twitcy: Thanks!
