  1. Hey welcome back. Has been a long while since I thought about visas, but pretty sure the wording is that "PR visas don't expire, only the part that allows you to travel into Australia does". Hence you can be in Australia as a PR 'forever' without needing a visa or to become a citizen. However if you want to travel you need a new visa -- this is where the RRV comes in. From past posts, immigration can be quite generous with RRVs i.e. if this your first time of asking for one they will likely grant you one and getting a job offer would be sign of a commitment to Australia (which is one of the criteria). Not sure how true it is, but was often said that applying for an evisitor/visitor visa is a terrible idea, as the risk is your overwrite your PR status and are left in a worse state than before you started. Is prolly worth getting some agent advice, to not stuff it up.
  2. UK taxman get's first bite of the cherry, needs to be assessed under the UK rules for CGT first. I believe that anything you pay the UK taxman will be deducted from any resulting amount the ATO decide they would like (to avoid being double taxed). you have quite a short window to tell HMRC about the disposal: https://www.gov.uk/report-and-pay-your-capital-gains-tax/if-you-sold-a-property-in-the-uk-on-or-after-6-april-2020
  3. Penalty points for speeding aren't considered a criminal conviction and don't need to be declared.
  4. I've used https://www.simplybusiness.co.uk/ for 12 years, never had to claim (touch wood) so can't comment on if they're any good.
  5. Refused means the visa was never issued. Cancelled means after the visa was issued it was later withdrawn. If a visa has been refused, yes you would have to answer "YES".
  6. Wowee, UK inflation under control? https://www.afr.com/policy/economy/jpmorgan-sees-risks-of-7pc-uk-rate-peak-hard-landing-20230706-p5dm27 https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/jun/20/how-uk-inflation-compares-with-other-major-economies https://www.cnbc.com/2023/07/04/uk-is-now-the-only-major-economy-where-inflation-is-still-rising.html
  7. I still have a few boxes un-opened since we moved here in 2011.....
  8. I would choose somewhere that was a balance of a. what is available b. what I could afford and c. what I could tolerate. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2022/apr/30/my-daughter-couldnt-start-school-sydney-family-rejected-for-35-rental-homes-despite-1000-a-week-budget
  9. It's your life.. I always took the view that my family is going to die anyway, whether I'm there or not. They've all got to live the life they've wanted to live - and where they've wanted to live - so why shouldn't I get the same opportunity? Not a popular opinion I know.
  10. Yes, your PR visa never expires, you can stay here forever - but your ability to use it for entry into Australia expires after 4/5 years (can't remember which).
  11. Yes, but this was 2011 and in ACT, the rules change and vary from state to state.
  12. Just to add that banks were prepared to consider o/seas income when looking at my capacity to repay, but not in calculating the amount I could borrow.
  13. I offer the information via my broker as was told (most recently for ING) that there was no section of the form for foreign assets/income/debts.
