I am looking to use the pre 1989 rule? As wont have had my current Jaguar for over 12 months before we activate our Visa..... I Have managed to locate a 1988 model though. Hi, My Mother in law plans to come over with us in March (2015) when we make our permanent move to Adelaide. Initially i believe for several weeks and then perhaps for several months. She was granted her Subclass 600 (see picture below) and as i read it.... It looks like, so long as she activates it by 21st July 2015, it is then valid for the 12 month period after that date? - Is this correct OR is the clock ticking, and it effectivly runs out on 21st July 2015? As mentioned, we plan to fly out on 30th March 2015 (Arriving on 1st April 2015

Anyone know the costs associated with exporting a car from South Australia to the UK and associated costs in making it UK road legal?

I can confirm that 4 months is how long it took - However, my wife was unable to respond to a question they asked on the website for a couple of weeks, and then had a delay on collating the particular piece of information they further requested. So potentially it could have only taken 3 months!! There is definitely an element of waiting, but correspondence through the immi site was good. For me, the biggest doubt regarding the Visa being granted, was passing the medical, but i needn't have worried - But still, i never wanted to let myself think it was 'in the bag' untill my wife forwarded me the e-mail this morning :-)

Thanks - a big relief indeed!! We submitted our application on the 11th March 2014 and we went and did our medicals and Police checks at the tail end of March (IIRC).... I have to say i am a little baffled by the 'Must Make entry into Australia Before' date, as in the next box 'Must Not arrive after' it gives the date: 7th July 2019. Before receiving the 4 (my wife, myself and 2xChildren) Visa grant notice documents. I thought that worse case scenario, if were were not in a financial position to move until, say (for example) January 2016. My wife could have traveled alone to Australia, had the visa/passport activated and then come back, buying some time. But it looks like all 4 of us would have to make that journey?? Either way, its good to have a date to work to, and we will use 30th March 2015 (its a Monday).

Had the e-mail (and attachments) today, to inform us that our 189 visa(s) have been granted! Its an amazing relief to finally have the 'OK'. Each individual 'VISA GRANT NOTICE' states that first entry to Australia must be made by 8th April 2015 - So we are going to set Monday 30th March as our date to leave the UK. I'm still hoping that Adelaide is where we find ourselves moving to but the job situation still concerns me greatly. I would also like to say a massive thank you, to everyone that helped us with all our questions and queries throughout the process of getting the VISA..... without all that help we would have definitely had to use an agent.

My wife and i Hope to be able to make our move to Australia just after Christmas (if not before).... From the very beginning we identified Adelaide as our destination of choice - For the following reasons. Climate - Warm/hot but not to wet and not to Humid. Property Prices - We live on the coast in SE England and don't want to live away from the coast in Australia BUT at the same time our maximum budget for a house would only (likely) be $400.000 -$450.000. It would seem that you can get a nice(ish) house, relatively close to the city and the countryside and very close to the beach in some suburbs of Adelaide, where this would not be available on our budget in any other city in Australia? A great place for the kids to grow up - I don't think there is any disputing that Adelaide is a wonderful place for children to enjoy their childhoods. In the UK we live close to the city (Brighton and Hove) but not in the city, and close to the countryside (south downs) but not in the countryside. As mentioned, we live right by the sea...... Moving to Australia is all about creating a better lifestyle and for me, living in a city or miles away from anywhere and not being near the beach and 'beach life' would be a step backwards - So Adelaide made perfect sense for our budget, and in general. BUT Having read many threads on the Poms in Adelaide forum - It would appear there is little in the way of work and secure employment, even if we both re-trained or worked 'any job' we could. This then means no mortgage or funds to enjoy life etc, etc.... And thats not a better life. So my questions are: 1. Is there somewhere else in Australia that meets our criteria and budget but has better job opportunities? 2. Are the job opportunities in Adelaide really that bad - or is it a biased 'internet view'..... To use an analogy: If you search Google for information on Audi A4/A6 cars fitted with a multitronic gearbox you would never ever buy one. Yet my brother works as an Audi service manager and says he very rarely sees issues with the cars fitted with this gearbox, and i owned one and drove it hard and never had any issues with it at all - It's just that nobody goes onto the internet to say " i don't have a problem with my gearbox". 3. Is it a case that all cities and their suburbs in Australia, are suffering from a lack of employment opportunities, and now is not a good time to emigrate? As a footnote i should perhaps ad that my wife is a Specialist Diabetes Nurse and Diabetes Educator - She would be looking to remain in this line of work. I am Support Services/Facilities manager but would be happy to explore other options and have thought about doing my HGV licence when we move. Hi... Back in March 2nd we made our 189 Visa application online. Scanned the required documents etc etc... However we have heard nothing at all since - no indication that a case officer has been assigned, no status changes etc. Effectively, when we log onto ImmiAccount nothing has changed since the evening of the 2nd when we had scanned our documents. Medicals were done 2nd April, Police checks done several weeks ago..... Should we have received some feedback/updates by now? Thanks.

My wife has just had her skills assessment completed and confirmed as suitable for migration “For the nominated occupation of 224414 Registered Nurse (Community Health)”…. Originally our plan was to go for a 190 Visa (requiring 60 points) and I thought we would have had way more than 60 points, due to my wife being a fulltime nurse since past her University course 12 years ago. However, it seems that because she has only been working in the ‘Community Health’ sector for 2-3 years, we only come in at 65 Points. Just to clarify - my wife is a Specialist Diabetes Nurse and Trainer/educator. And has been so for about 6 years. We originally planned on the 190 visa because having made such a huge move and having a young family, we (ideally) don’t ever plan to return to the UK. So my question is – If moving to Australia on a temporary VISA is it quite strait forward to apply for permanent residency once in Australia (say, after 12 months)?

Hi, My wife mentioned to me the other day, that for her to get work - she is a Specialist diabetes Nurse (and trainer) who works in the community. Our best bet, is to base ourselves in Mount Gambier (as opposed to Adelaide).... Anyone have any experience of this City (I believe its a city)? And does it have any other industry - Sometimes I think she forgets that I need work too!! I understand its about 450KM away from Adelaide? How far away is it from 'a day at the beach'? Does the 'wildlife' activity step up a notch in comparison to the suburbs of Adelaide? Thanks, Richard.

Thanks for the feedback - Just phoned Brighton Magistrate court who told me they would want £25 (per document), however having read a previous post in this thread on How Brighton can be rude and not do it correctly, i think i'll give it a miss.... I'll contact the original solicitor and explain that don't need the use of their Notary. What am i actually asking the solicitor to do?

Hi, Just looking for some clarification on sending all the paperwork for skills assessment. My wife has separate documents that need to be sent of to ANMAC for skills assessment.... Previously i had spoken to my mums solicitor (during the course of a meeting regarding a non related event) and he said he could whiteness the copies and sign them for a small donation to charity. However, i sent him an e-mail yesterday and his response was that one of his colleagues would have to do this as they are for a foreign country and that a proper Notarizing solicitor would have to do this - at a cost of £75 a document. Does this sound correct? or would my 'normal' solicitor's signature and stamp be adequate? Thanks.
