  1. Hi Samantha, Indeed this is an old thread & I had not noticed it before. Long story short: I have a lovely riverfront small acreage property is TAS about 45 mins south/east of Hobart. I no longer reside there but regularly visit & have the property watched & looked after. I am a 30 yrs established professional mechanical & electrical engineer. I've been self employed for over 20 yrs. Re your post you have not offered much info your experience or level of qualifications ? Neither have you mentioned which specific field of mechanical engineering which you have either worked in or interests you ? I can't offer you any helpful advice unless you are far more specific, Kind regards.
  2. I have a vacancy available for a professional qualified motorcycle mechanic Applicant must have at least 4 yrs full time on tools professional experience specifically repairing & serviceing most makes & models of new & old motorcycles & motor scooters. Note any applicants must produce legitimate qualifications that proove an actual full time apprenticeship has been completed. Credentials must be appropriate to submit to the MVRA ( motor vehicle repair aurthority ) for application for a motorcycle repairers license in N.S.W. Age / gender open the more experience the better excellent income with incentives to the right man or woman for the job. Au's Uk or Euro applicants preferred, own tools preferred but not essential. You would be working with a friendly professional mature very well respected ( female ) motorcycle mechanic whom has over 30 years experience in the trade among other more formal fields of expertise. Workshop is based in the inner west of Sydney 15 minute to the CBD via train station 5 minutes walk to train. Please note:other fields of mechanical engineering regardless of which are not applicable if submitted as relevent qualifications ! E.G. Car mechanics or agrecultural equipment repairers ( are not motorcycle mechanics ) Fact is it is against the law in N.S.W. / or WA for any individual to repair any road use registerable motorcycle without a N.S.W. repairers license or be officially apprenticed to a fully licensed motorcycle mechanic. Indeed the right applicant whom has the skills & cred's together with good work ethics / well presented / honest integrity will make a decent income. Part time or full time minimum 25 hrs or more per week preferred. Apply via attached CV to this post, Regards Proprietor
  3. Hi, I have owned property in Sydney 15 yrs ago. Nowadays the prices anywhere within a comfortable distance of the CBD are absurd. Consider also that Sydney is also the highest taxed state more motorists IN THE WORLD ! Fines / tolls / registration of a vehicle is at extortion level. Sad fact is it is actually going to get worse not better. One of the key reasons is the appetite of Charlie to own as much of Sydney as possible. I will refrain from elaborating or getting too specific, just quietly !
  4. I did seriously consider that suggestion ! Would have loved to as I am a passionate cook. Prob is it would cost waaay to much money to set up & make so many changes to the home. Ta though for yr input
  5. Ta for the interesting reply, Ranelagh is very close to my place lovley but not quite as breathtaking. Huonville is quite a bit bigger than it looks when driving through & has been pretty rapidly growing for quite a while now but you are right re entertainment & such is definately a Hobart thing unless the very chilled pretty ordinary cafe' resturant scene is ones pref. Later at night there the fish stop swimming ! Way back 12 yrs ago when I first moved to the area I nic named Huonville ( Deliveranceville ) lol. Almost all of the old red population have long since moved a lot further out since those days. Mostly artistic type folks these days I could continue my ( current profession ) in TAS & move my workshop over there but I am not keen on that idea as it is a male dominated profession & although profitable it is physically getting way too hard for me these days. I recall my ex was in the same buis but I simply could no longer cope with the short man syndrome hence we could never work together LOL. Letting out my house would be out of the question without my presence, indeed it is a work of art & the surfaces are far too valuable & come irreplacable. Some people may envy my plight but my commitments are in fact pretty serious ! I am extremely wary of moving back without a good worthwhile plan or perhaps I will just very reluctantly stick to the previous plan of selling up my beloved dream home. Again ta kindly for your thoughts
  6. Facinating post, I have considered going back to the UK to stay for a couple of weeks with an ex childhood boyfriend who is in the same profession as me. He is keen to move to Au's but who knows after over 30 yrs he could end up being nothing like his numerous emails & pic over the yrs suggest LOL. Happy to see this process seems to be going well for you both thus far. All the best of luck
  7. Hi , well I suppose one persons ideal can be someone elses bad dream LOL Although for the first week I would be in absolute bliss re the much needed peace & quiet. I however am quite a social urban type lady & without enough friends & activities I would go nuts. Long term locals from the area tend to be boring to the extent of wierd & extremely slow & care free. One of the main reason I joined on here was to get to know more fun ( switched on ) people whom are new to the area. Ta for your input, cheers
  8. Hi Everyone, Geez I haven't been on here for ages. Been too busy working way too hard in Sydney. I have a 1 of a kind stunning 5 acre riverfront property in the Huon Valley I have not lived in since built back in 09. I have been sooo stressed & overworked here in Sydney, I am actually thinking of making the move back down to TAS. 3 x probs with this idea is 1, the issue of an income / 2, wrapping up my very busy respected buisiness in Sydney ??? 3, the bordom e.g. isolation being a middle aged single female 15 mins drive away from the local major town. Hmm what to do ?? A penny for any contructive advice , cheers
  9. Hi, I bought my riverfront property in the Huon Valley 30mins drive from Hobart CBD 10 yrs ago. I lived in the area for just over 5 years. I travelled Tas quite extensively as a part time Jazz musician. Usually I performed in the more civilized area's E.g. CBD hotels / Wineries / food & wine festivals & so forth. One get's to learn a lot about the general population of different area's as a musician. Personally speaking I think Hobart is a far better choice of area to work & live than Launceston, There is no comarison re the life style & one encounters a lot less of the layman redneck types. Quite simply that element along with misguided teenagers are generally further away from Hobart CBD as opposed to Launceston. Davenport although it has some beautiful inland areas such as the gorgeous Delloraine Forrest, is a dead as a door nail town most of the yr with an abundant number of square people in a round world ! Huon Valley is the central costal channel highway point between Hobart & the south west tip of the state. I found it a gorgeous place to live & Huonville the central town there is rapidly growing & the pick of many of the 50+ age bracket Au's retiree's. There are two medical centres in the Huon Valley & 2 private GP's, good schools & an absolutely huge newly built indoor youth centre complex. Apparently the medical centres there have a high turn over of staff as local's are a bit behind the times re their skills so I'm told. Might be worth checking out Huonville ! I live & work in Sydney but I have a waterfront small acreage property with 4 bedroom home 15mins from Huonville. Sorry I can't help re accom as my home I have on the market at present. I would not consider renting it as the interior & structural art is far too valuable to risk any usuage related damage for the sake of a modest rental return. Another great area to consider near the beach cost 20 min's max from Hobart is Margate ! Best of luck with the job hunting, truly beautiful lifestyle in TAS but yes it is indeed wise to be prepared, Happy N/Y to all, skilledhansgirl.
  10. Indeed Tas is a gorgeous lifestyle but re buying a property there it is best to have evolved from the hardworking stage of life. E.G. Imagine having spent your life's savings + a substancial mortgage to built the likes of this home http://www.gumtree.com.au/m-my-ad.html?adId=1008058342 I did only to later discover that major family circumstances changed back in Sydney hence I could not make the very high income required for such drama's.I was then forced to place my truly irriplaciple dream home on the market for not much over half what it owes me. Seems there is very little justice in the world at times in life, Obviously to say it is heartbreaking to part with my beautiful home is an understatement, Skilledhansgirl
  11. Hi Beck, I lived in Tas south of Hobart for 7 years & still own my home there in arguably the most sought after retired & semi retired popular favorate area the gorgeous Huon Valley. There is am awful lot of good honest advice I could offer having run my own business there. I honestly don't have time at present as it is late here in Sydney Au's but I will indeed offer a very insightful post to the subject of Tas within the next few days, Kind regards, skilledhansgirl
  12. Hi Anne, Indeed I could write an epic all factual Novellia on the character building experience of building a home in TAS. I suppose to cut a ridiculously long story short I seriosusly recommend buying an established home if you intend to move to Tas. I have a breathtaking beautiful stone & log craftsman built home on a pristine 4.6 acre fresh water riverfront around 40 minuites south of Hobart. After the 6 years it took to complete at double my planned budget I had to move back to Sydney Au's to earn enough extra income to cover the resulting substancial motgage. I have not even lived in my dream home since it was completed & it is far too exquisitly finished to rent. Since then I have encountered serious illness within my close family & the heartbreaking result is I now have my home in Tas on the market for not much over half what it owes me. Regardless of where you buy in Tas I can not stress the point strongly enough that you are a great deal better off to buy a fully esablished home with an official dwelling certificate. Indeed to say builders in Tas are a ridiculous joke is a profound understatement, Kind regards skilledhansgirl.
  13. Hi, Pardon this new lass chimeing in with this but I am inclined to believe my life's work is a pretty good example of old world craftsmanship. Pity the locals worked at a sloth's pace it took over 5 yrs to produce this: sheoakroad.net experts.com.au Alas it took soooo long & cost so much I now face the absolutely heartbreaking reality of having to sell up & move on to a far more modest abode. Between the expense sending me broke & terminal illness in my family I am left with no choice. Most folks consider my home the epitome of old world colonial art on the best freshwater riverfront spot in southern Tas, Ah well sa la ve life must go on, Skilledhansgirl/ TAS
  14. Hi hon, I am a new member & I hope you don't mind me chimeing in ! Ah well try not to beat yrself up too much about it geez you'd think I'd have in worked out by now after being here in Au's for 37yrs. Alas however I am considering going back to the UK. Mind you I am a formally qualifed lady in my 40's have made my life here since pre teens. I cannot deny however that the best friends I have made here in Au's where travellers from the UK & Europe who all had to go back home. Maybe I am also a sucker for the tall dark Englishman types as well ???, Who knows what transpires, Kind regards skilledhansgirl.
