  1. My husband has been told there’s a job in Perth for him if he wants it. I don’t think we’ll seriously consider the move ( currently in Tassie) as although I love Perth/WA in general, I don’t think I could stand the summer heat in Perth. But if he had a job in Midland what areas would /could you live that aren’t scummy and the commute isn’t ridiculous? i just want to look at houses really to convince myself that there’s no point considering the upheaval!
  2. Yes those owners exist everywhere- very annoying Dogs are always off lead even on the onlead beaches I find.
  3. Oh yes I got some for a colleague’s secret santa present one year. I think I could afford 2 miniatures for the $30 budget!
  4. Yes I totally see that happening. All the mainlanders quote the climate as their reason for moving.
  5. I was going to get some of that Lark whiskey as a present for my husband when I down there. Saw the prices and decided I didn’t love him that much!
  6. Yes Pig Island is good with the boardwalk there too. I like going along Sheehan walk through to Kings Park there too. I’ll have to do the Bluff to Coles beach. I’ve done the Pardoe Beach to East Devonport path a few times, Back beach and Lighthouse/Bluff towards town. I like trying new places. Usually walk on Shearwater Esp and the dog beaches there. Went out this evening but the horrible weather hit and we came home pretty sharpish! IMG_9285.MOV
  7. So many people from the mainland moving over at the moment. I’m not complaining just something I’ve noticed. The penny has dropped!
  8. Where is this? I’m looking for some new places to walk the pooches :)
  9. Oh dear. Not sure why.... I can see it. Today we had the kind of wildlife I’m not as keen on!
  10. I love the quirky mailboxes here! I was disappointed to have to put up a quick mitre 10 job when we moved in. I will vow to replace it with something more interesting!
  11. “Our” echidna. IMG_4555.MOV
  12. 1) I grew up in the 80’s when everyone was obsessed with Australia eg Crocodile Dundee, Neighbours etc.!Later Billy Connolly’s Tour of Aus and Bill Bryson’s Down Under kept the Aus fire alight. 2) During Uni I had the opportunity to come to Perth for a couple of months. Loved it. Wanted to emigrate/return ASAP. 3) After saving up for a couple of years I came out as a backpacker. Loved Aus all the more. Met a local bloke in Tassie. Took him home as a souvenir! ( First mistake .... not meeting him.... but should have stayed In Aus then and got a visa via work) 4) Retuned to Aus 2 yrs ago as husband hated living in the UK. Had intended to move many years before but housing crash stopped us followed by children / struggling to save up despite both being professionals. 5)Jobs/earnings/house buying prospects all better for us both here. 6) Weather .... sort of anyway. I love seasons so Tassie suits me. I couldn’t cope with mainland heat. But on the whole Tassie has milder winters/less greyness/ more daylight in winter. Summer is usually slightly warmer/ more predictable than a UK summer but anything over 25 I don’t like anyway! 7) Kids enjoying the outdoors more. They joined surf club which definitely wasn’t happening on the North Sea! Out on bikes more. Looking at SUPs/kayaks when they get a bit older as we’re only 5 mins to the coast. Obviously skin cancer risk is higher so we are careful/ sun smart. 8 ) Love the Aussie wildlife in our garden. The space we have. Have neighbours but we’re not squished in. Room to breathe and enjoy the birdsong, bandicoots, wallabies and our resident echidna. Sorry I went over the 6!
  13. Thick fog yesterday up to Stony Rise road at 8.15am. Then sunshine all the way to Burnie! Bit dull, grey and....English today!
  14. Waterfront Cafe Devonport. A BEAUTIFUL spot for a coffee, cake and round of mini golf with the kids. ?
