  1. Oh my, I thought at that stage it would be "all GO" Im really sorry to hear this............ are considering another country or staying where you are? So at some point was there salary expectations required? This is my main concern becuase as it stands my trade isnt valid in the NT so everything will depend on the hairdressing status?! We have already lost a lot when I applied a few years ago and they changed the rules mid process so to lose even more and effectively put your life on hold for this length of time is quite a daunting process. We have had a decent summer here so having passed the IELTS we still need to work on her skills assessment so in order to get things started we should really get motivated again!!
  2. WOW that is a long wait. Although I assume the wait will bw worth it and by this stage there should be no major snags and you can start dreaming of a sunnier life. Im miles behind everyone on this thread, we are trying to do it ourselves and my current issue is how I lay out the evidence in the way VETASSESS want to see it? My plan was to take a couple of videos and use the software discussed throughout this thread but in terms of capturing all the requirements of the units/modules required and cross refrencing to my evidence pack I was going to do write ups of the techniques required but highlight the health and safety aspects, environmental awareness, cutting techniques throuhgout each etc. Is there such a thing as over kill or is it the more the merrier? Thanks
  3. Hi guys, so this thread was started in 2015, so is everyone who started the process from the UK back then all happily settled in Oz? We are just at the very beginning but was hoping (everything being successful) that 12 months was a reasonable timeline but I am beginning to doubt that.
  4. ha ha I feel your pain, we are the outskirts of Glasgow and it feels like we have had a 3 year winter ha ha. Thats great info again. So you have now passed your skills assessment? Ive not seen the pte exam but we are thinking ielts. I sat this last year so can explain whats what to my wife. I passed that and done all the groundwork but its traspired that i need a degree to back up my trade so we are going to try and get on the strength of hairdressing. If possible could you let me know your agent via PM if that suits, as I have said before we got stung before so using one that someone else has used would be great for the Visa process if we can get through the skills assessment. Thanks
  5. That really is great information thanks very much. If you dont mind me asking more specific questions I will list them below - I have all the downloads from Vetassess and its looks long winded, but clear enough so I am confident I can gather up most of the information, BUT how much visual, video evidence do they want of the actual practice of hairdressing? I read about the perms and various other styles but is there a limit to how much they want/need? I woudl hate to not include enough but also dont want to drown my application with hundreds of pictures and videos. - Was the English test required for your skills assessment or is it more to support your points total in order to apply for the 190 visa? Also can I ask what test you sat? I assumed it woudl be the general but my wife thinks it might be the academic test? - I am not sure what the commitment statememt is either but it will hopefully be the 190 we are applying for if the skills assessment is successful so I will look into this also. I hope you dont mind me asking these questions. We are determined that this time we can follow the whole process through and finally get our move. Thanks Scott
  6. Hi, I have been on before and asked a similiar question but this is hopefully more specific. My wife is a time served Hairdresser here in the UK with 12 years experience. We are 32 and are now looking into how to get her skills assessed. We are going to attempt this ourselves before getting agents involved as we have been stung before with advise from an agent who in all honesty was more interested in getting my pack in to recieve their payment but thats a different gripe. Is there anyone here who has completed the skills assessment for Hairdressing in the last few years and has the relevant/ up to date information that we could use to get this started? We have an idea of the process through endless searches but it would be such a help if we could round up some specific information. Thanks in advance Scott
  7. I work away from home so I am not able to do night classes and my work would not support day release to college either. I started the OU route mainly due to the fact I am away from home so i have no excuses not to be studying ha ha.Engineering Australia also require 5 years worked Post Grad so everything is against me with regards to that ha ha. Its a shame as I still have all my evidence and references but they will hopefully help me get work when I am out there (if we get out there). Thanks
  8. I applied for state sponsorship as a mechanical design draftsman, everything was looking great during the time I was getting my evidence together but in the 8 weeks it took me get the information Engineering Australia (the assessing body) changed the requirements. My apprenticehip educated me to an HNC level but Engineering Aus changed the requirment to a minimum of an HND. Engineering Aus took my money, the Visa agent took my money and one glance at my HNC qualification it was thrown out:( Really hard to take as I served my time with a Global company (who actually exist in the state I wanted sponsored with). Not to mention they totally disregarded my 10 + yrs experience. First time I witnessed the whole "its our way or no way" attitude I have heard about. I have started my degree with the Open university to back up my trade with the qualification but it will take too long so we will try the state sponsorship through Hairdresser. I am quite confident that if there is jobs out there for me I will get one without the Engineer Australia recognition ... im a glass half full kind of guy ha ha
  9. hi, Thanks for that information. I suppose I never really thought of it like that before. I must admit as we look it was always the state sponsor route we were going down. Although I did assume a works sponsor would make the whole thing easierbut looking at the bigger picture it could end up being quite problematic so thanks for that. We need to start gathering the information with regards to her trade so will get to work on that before applying to have her skills assessed. I wasnt aware Tas was on the list too? I did know about SA but as you say I suspect the special conditions would be quite difficult to satisfy. Are you based in the NT just now? Thanks
  10. Hi, After getting some terrible advise and Engineering Australia changing the "rules" with regards to my trade and ending our Australia dream we have once again decided to go for it again using my wifes trade - a Hairdresser. It has taken us more than 12 months to decide to try again, mainly because the itch to move just wont go away, ha ha.It looks as though Northen Territory is the only state that Hairdressing is applicable too (that is fine by us). I am 31, my wife is 30 and we have 2 kids who will turn 11 and 8 this year, living in Scotland. We feel if we are going to move we need to do it in the next year or so. So I have two questions;1. Ideally to avoid the stress of our last attempt we would love a job sponsor, this would make the whole process so much more straigh forward, we would even fund the Visa knowing there is a job waiting. So if anyone know of any Hairdresser chains looking for a talented Hairdresser let me know 2. If there are any Hairdressers on here who have went through through the Visa process all information would be greatly appreciated, we are trying to avoid using an agent this time as the last one proved to be a rather expensive mistake. Thanks again Scott
  11. I see this is quite an old post bit have taken the chance and emailed you my most recetn resume and hope to hear from you soon Thanks
  12. Hi, You appear to be suffering from the same hassle I have. Engineering Australia changed the rules from an HNC to a minimum HND qualification during my application, paid my fees to the migration "experts" and got my application rejected at the first hurdle. Engineering Australia didn't care that I served my time with a Global company OR look at my 10years experience. Anyway for me to get to the point did you establish a route to go without seeking a degree then gaining sufficient experience? As far as I am concerned my only route to Australia now is either via a job offer or complete the degree I have now started . Any info would be much appreciated, cheers Scott
  13. Thanks for the info. I would love to move to oz but the process just appears too expensive and difficult using my trade (draftsman). Quite frustrating really and we lost a fair bit on a failed visa attempt 18 months ago. A work sponsor I think would be my best route but they are few and far between nowadays. Thanks
  14. Hi, I wanted to ask what's happening with shipbuilding? I am flirting with making another attempt at my visa. I was ill advised last yr and was rejected due to new rules imposed by engineers australia . anyways I have come across a visa type aimed specifically at shipbuilding draftsperson. I have been reading online and it's looks like shipbuilding in South Australia is on it's knees? Is this the case? Shipbuilding in the UK is actually as busy as it has been in a long time so Thought I would ask the question. Thanks ?

    a good age

ha ha, yeah you are probably right with the "how long is a piece of string" statement. I think I under estimate the amount of people that move every year and and the numbers on the forum. if nothing else its a bit of fun!! some good advice though on how to make the move work!! thanks
