So was I PB and I still pay tax in the UK, but I got a £600 bill last year as I wasn't entitled to NHS care because I'm not 'Ordinarily Resident' in the UK and it was deemed non emergency treatment, which is free. Had I been an Australian Citizen I would not have been billed. Costa 123 and family will be entitled to NHS care because they will be resident citizens.

Ok, it is my opinion and also a fact. It was not however, scaremongering!More people survive car crashes than 'plane crashes, whatever the cause. And obviously a car driving into a wall is a crash, and no, the Hudson River incident was not a crash, it was a very well excecuted emergency landing.

@Fisher1 I totally understand how you feel. I flew a few days after MA17 and cried as I boarded I was so frightened. I fly to the UK regularly and it scares the **** out of me, but it always has. My initial post was about my feelings about flying that's all. I wish you safe travels as I always do when I hear people are travelling, by whichever mode of transport they choose.

I would think that's obvious as I'd imagine there are a lot more car journeys happening in the world as there are flights. I could be wrong though, I haven't checked the stats.

How dare you accuse me of scaremongering!!! I am one of the people on this forum least likely to start an argument or to scaremonger, particularly about flying as it terrifies me!! I was expressing my opinion and my feelings about flying, which I'm perfectly entitled to do! I worked, for a time as a nurse in an A/E department and A/E ward, I treated hundreds of patients over the years who survived car crashes, I'm pretty sure if I'd worked near an aviation crash site I would not have seen any survivors. That 'plane didn't crash into the Hudson River, the pilot made an emergency landing on it, and if their baggage had made it onto the carousel, the passengers would have been able to collect it.

That wasn't a crash.

I hate flying and I hate when people say it's safer than driving! You have a chance of surviving a car crash!

I'm a temporary resident of 3 years, I go home 2-3 times a year to visit my family and have been to my old GP several times, he kept me 'on the books' as I go back so often. I don't get charged for seeing him and up until last year, paid for my prescriptions Last summer I had a sore wrist, which got progressively worse, I have rheumatoid arthritis and initially put it down to driving a lot. The week before I came home my wrist was swollen red and very painful, I contacted my old RA nurse to ask for a steroid injection to tide me over 'till I got back, she arranged an appointment to see my old rheumatologist. He injected my wrist with steroid and analgesic, I flew back the next day, unfortunately the injection didn't hit the spot and I had an awful journey home. I was admitted to hospital 2 days later. A few weeks later I got a msg from a friend who works in finance at the hospital I attended, (I used to work there) to say she'd seen an invoice with my name on it, it was for £597. 25 I have an NHS pension and pay tax in the UK but because I'm not an Australian citizen I have to pay this bill. If I'd presented in A/E my treatment would have been free.
