  4. hi, roadworthy cert is needed on all used cars..only lasts 3 months tho. when a person sells a car they must have the road worthy done, if not dont touch it, it is like an mot all dealers should have it done, again do not touch it if it hasnt, unless you are good at taking risks we tried buying a new car when we arrived, but credit company wanted copies of payslips (x3) so thats 6 weeks worth as you get paid every fortnight here. i wouldnt risk an application as if declined will affect your credit rating here, so direct effect if you want to buy other goods or a house. be partient and wait till you get here i would recommend fully comp insurance and break down cover we used BUDGET seem to be cheapest for us hope this helps, its damn confusing weve been here 6 months and still finding out new stuff everyday

    Telstra

we have telstra broadband and mobile phones...no real issues i think the problem is you go into the stores and the service is good, but as soon as you talk to customer service is terrible we have to go with telstra as out in the sticks we had no problems getting any form of credit in australia and weve been here 6 months
  6. id be buying an Asian make, cheaper parts etc how about kia, honda, toyota buying a car that size with about $6K will be quite a struggle we bought a honda jazz for $11K 07 plate 10 months rego, 57K on the clock....just goes to show how expensive cars are here melbourne car super market maybe a good place to get a deal
  7. my wife got a job as a leading teacher on her 2nd job application it is a permanent contract as you may find the job adverts go on about cover teachers etc and temp contracts BUT we have moved to east gippsland as many jobs in Melbourne are highly competitive as she found out if you are willing to live out of melbourne you should get lucky its good at the mo, teachers have just had another pay rise and the work will not be performance based unlike the way the UK will be going soon get your VIT number as if you dont have that no one will look at you thanks
  8. hi, i was a youth worker in the uk for 15 years and moved over here after applying for about 20 jobs before we arrived it wasn't worth it, no one will look at you unless you are here i have an MA in youth and community work aswell as loads of others and it isnt worth it i'd say get here and apply for jobs, unless you need the points for migration purposes i now work for a company called vista as a team leader earning 55k pa they were ok with looking at my quals but mainly exp here in oz the traditional youth worker doesn't exist its more case worker, social work related, drug and alcohol as australia does not have a state or country wide youth service hope this gives you a picture of what its like to get a job etc cheers and good luck
  9. i actually think you have a one sided view of life australia is totally different to the UK go back to the UK if thats what you need to do
  10. get ambo cover aswell you can get cover for 1 year plus if you call 000 for an ambulance without ambo cover it will cost you thousands of $ easy to register on website

  12. its down to the whole family to work on this issue most of the kids i now work very very hard here in oz, sat day jobs etc they all want to go to uni
  13. we are loving it here, good jobs, good friends, live in a small rural town that has everything enough money, good internet etc etc but i guess some brits cant settle, move back home and then regret it
