  1. Hi all, This new tax law that commences on the 1st of July when claiming DASP for 417 visa holders has got me worried. When I moved her 7 years ago I held a 417 visa for a year. I then got sponsored and have been on this 457 visa for nearly 6 years. I'm hearing conflicting information on what I will be taxed on my super when I leave Australia. I rang the ATO today and got a lot of responses such as "I think" and "maybe" to my questions. My main question is will I get charged the full 65% on all my super even though I have been on a 457 for 6 years or will I only be charged the 65% for the contributions I made while on the 417. This could mean the difference in thousands of dollars for me
  2. hey, We got ours through IMAN. They deal specifically with 457 Health Insurance. They're reasonably priced too which is a bonus!!
  3. Hey, So i've been on this alot with questions about 457 visa and everyone has been a great help! So our visa is being processed (boyfriend getting sponsored and i'm going de facto) but yesterday my boyfriend lost his job  This led to alot of discussions last night about what to do, leave, stay, hope for another sponsor. We just don't know what to do. Our WHV is up in 5 weeks so this is not giving us alot of time. Anyone been through this before or have any advice. It's such a blow bcoz i really don't want to go back home to no job.
  4. I've just sent off my sponsorship visa and to prove my partner and i are in a relationship, we sent all the documents that you mentioned plus wedding invites, birthday cards, valentines card, photos with each others families, etc. I'm hoping what we sent was enough. Police officers can certify all your documents. We got ours done by police, even if they weren't too happy with the pile of sheets they had to sign!!!
  5. Hi guys, I'm hoping someone might be able to help with this. My boyfriend is currently in the process of being sponsored by his boss, 457 visa. He sent his application for ARTC, skills assessment but it came back as failed (he's an electrican). So i'm just wondering does he need a skills assessment when applying for the 457 visa?
  6. Hey, hope some of you might be able to help. my boyfriend and I are currently in the process of getting our 457 visa and were told we automatically get a bridging visa. The thing is me we have planned to go home at Xmas (booked last May) so will the Bridging visa A or B apply to us, or any? Also we were both on a WHV but my 6 months of working for one employer is up at the end of the month. If i get the bridging visa will i be able to continue working for over the 6 months? I've see that it's the same conditions as your last visa but is there any way round this?
  7. Hey, Just looking through the list of documents for the 457 visa and i think i have most of them ready but just need to get them signed. My partner is going de facto on the visa so how do i send such things as photos when i lodge my application? Is simply scanning them and attaching them as PDF ok?
  8. Thanks for that but trying to stay away from Migration agents and do it ourselves coz i heard they charge high fees. My friend had to pay out 4 grand for one!!
  9. Congrats to you  How long did it take?
  10. Ok so as you can tell i'm having problems with the 457 (isn't everyone!) My boyfriend has been nominated by the company he works for and i'm going de facto on the visa. The nomination was put through last Friday and is being processed. I rang the Dept of Immigration to with a few (hundred) questions. As far as the website says, you can put through the nomination and your visa application at the same time, which is what we did. But no, i was told me this ignorant man on the phone that we put it through too late when in fact i started the visa application 2 hours after i recieved the reference number from my boyfriends boss. Does anyone know what the story with this is? I'm really pi**ed off that they don't state this more clearly on the website.:arghh: I was then told that it would take at least 4 weeks for the nomination to be approved and then we can start the visa application. Unfortunately we don't have time to waste as our 417 visa is up the end of Dec. I know we get a bridging visa but i read that you can't leave Oz with that but we've already our flights book home at Xmas. anyone know how Bridging visas work? I've heard that the 457 was stressful to apply for but this can't be good for a persons health!!! Any help appreciated guys!
