  1. We did he drive recently from Sydney to Brisbane, port Macquarie was really nice , we just would drive for a few hours and stop and explore for a few hours and stopped at coffs harbour on thway up and port ,acquire on the way back .
  2. Anyone applying for their registration may well be better going through act it took me 5 weeks last year they were brilliant Sydney is the busiest so avoid if you can. I think they do hurry it up a bit if you have a job pending
  3. Rozelle is brilliant plenty of buzzy cafe,s, and loads of restaurants. We have lived here for 8 mths and love it. 10 mins to the city by bus, we live near the 7km bay run, there are also numerous other clubs etc rowing, canoeing pontoon and water very soothing. We are by iron cove bridge and so have lots of buses going by in Victoria rd. Can,t think of anywhere I,d prefer to live
  4. My twin boys were in grammar school in the UK and we moved them in yr 7 also they didn,t want to come either. They are presently at a public school, and as we are currently on a 457 cannot go into the grammar stream but they have something similar called an enrichment stream. They did a term in yr 7 and it was fairly low key, but since being in yr 8 the homework has stepped up. It seems a lot more laid back here but they have made lots of really nice friends and 5 mths after arriving they announced they didn,t want to go back to the UK. Remind yourself that Australia also produce doctors and professional people so the schooling can,t really be that bad. Good luck, loving Sydney and Balmain area been here now for 8 mths
  5. I applied to act and it took just over a month back in march 2011 so my advise is go to act and make out you don,t know where you,ll be nursing. The staff there were really helpful and didn,t mind me hassling them at all.

  7. I would go for rozelle easy for buses to the city, loads of cages and places to eat plus you carry on walking and your into Balmain. Plus on the right side of rozelle you have the bay run/ walk 7 km a must if you live around there plus there is water annd rowing clubs and it's just a really buzzy place to live. Been living in rozelle for 6 mths and no chance of us moving anywhere else for now
  8. Put t He word out to the agencies and I think you could be sponsored on a 457 visa, this is for 4 yrs, I am 50 and been here 6mths on a 457 and am just going for permanent residency.check out the agencies
  9. Maybe go in on a 457 visa and then get the employer to sponsor you, I got in as a nurse on a 457 at 49 yrs then they have sponsored me and now am on the point of going for pr, so it's worth trying for the 457 and if you didn,t get sponsored it would be just living a different life for 4 yrs but you can ask the question at interview.
  10. Yes mine was modified went in 28/11/11 and just have to send in some certificates and mine will be done, expecting late this week or early next week. You can always try ringing them
  11. oads of work in Sydney, friend of mine on a 457 recently got offered a job on the district no problem and there were other offers available, seems to be better in the private hospitals rather than the public just depends on your preference
  12. i think it depends where it goes, ours went to parramatta , took 5 weeks and 4 days, went from processing commenced to approved, 4 days before it was approved we were told we had no case officer and then suddenly hey presto approved, so it will happen and quite soon, Niki
  13. Hi Donna You need to look up the AHPRA (which is the nurse registration body for australia) website and it has all the info you need there for overseas registration. Apparently you don't need IELTS if you can prove you were educated in english in the UK but by the time I found out this I had paid for mine , so took it anyway and I think it made things easier. I also applied in canberra ahpra because sydney had a backlog,Iknew I was going to sydney pretty much but was the only one not advertising and the staff there were really helpful and I regularly rang them to hassle for updates. I believe Perth is ok .Mine took about 3-4 weeks to get the application together and once sent 1month to register. I have gone in on a 457 and didn't need skills assessment. Let me know if I can help further Niki
  14. I'm just really nor sure about the catholic schools, my two are really not religious and I think that could be difficult. I have looked at 2 campuses in balmain and liechhart sydney secvondary college and hunters hill high, has anybody got anything to say about these schools. It seems when you are temporary residents you have to live where your nearest school is , or pay for private. So basically i'm thinking good area may mean good school. Can anybody give me any feedback. We are flexible about where we live as long as its no more than 30 mins from north ryde and the sydney CBD. Niki
  15. Hi Just want to wish you good luck, were still at the stage of having lots to organise and awaiting that visa Niki
