  1. Thanks very much for that Rudi. I have checked Dr McCombe out on the website and he looks promising so have got an appointment for today. Thanks again. Laura x
  2. We've moved to Cleveland last month from Scotland and I'v got to say i absolutely love it and we will defo settle in this suburb. There are a lot of medical practices in Cleveland so I'm looking for any recommendations for a good, thorough doctor. My wee boy has asthma so I would really like to find a doctor i can rely on to treat him properly. Any thoughts on the subject would be very much appreciated. Cheers x
  3. Thanks Mummy Mann and moving2melbourne i'll check both of them out. Cheers :wubclub:
  4. We're flying into Brisbane airport at 0050 on a saturday morning and wanted to have a hire car booked from this end. my problem is however, i cant find anywhere open at that time in the morning with most of them closing at 12. I reckon by the time we get through immigration and stuff it'l b bout 0200. Has anyone used a rental company at that time of morn?
  5. Hi just wondering if anyone has any idea how long it takes to get ur registration finalised once in Australia? I was granted my eligible for nursing registration letter a few months ago and I know to finalise the process i need to attend their office in Brisbane to confirm my identification and to have my criminal history check done. We leave in November and I obviously can't work until I have my reg so wondered if anyone has successfully completed the process this way and how long it took. Cheers
  6. UPDATE Just phoned Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School and spoke to a really helpful lady... and great news its not an absolute requirement that my wee boy needs a baptism certificate to be enrolled. We have an appointment with the principal tomorrow morning and all going well we could have him enrolled to start in January. I'm absolutely delighted :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
  7. Thanks dufont and wrussell for your information. Wellington point State School is one of the one's we've got on our short list and will be checking that out today. Thats good to hear about the catholic schools as the one we had our heart set on was Star of the Sea School in Cleveland which we had set our hearts on but when we found we needed a baptism certificate, thought that dream was over. I will be contacting the principal today and fingers crossed its the result we're after. Cheers
  8. We desperately need help. We are currently in Brisbane on a reccie and looking into state primary schools and we're not finding it easy to find a good state school. We're looking in the Bayside suburbs, East of Brisbane and Redland areas. We have exhausted the myschool website and the results that we are getting from that for the state schools appear to be average or below average. The schools with the excellent results appear to be either the Catholic schools or the private school, none of which are an option for us given the entry requirements. Does anyone have any personal experience of the schools around these areas that can share an opinion? Also it says on the website of one of the catholic schools that they require a baptism certificate to enrol in the school. Anyone know differently? Cheers
  9. I contacted PSS looking for a quote and when they got in touch with me they said they were giving my details to another company which they subcontract too as I live in Scotland. A good few weeks later and I'm still waiting for this other company to contact me. Even if they did now i wouldn't even let them through my door to give me a quote. Not a good sign. I got quotes from Doree Bonner (who were fantastic), Anglo Pacific (who we are going with) and Crown. Anglo pacific were th cheapest for us although would'v liked to'v gone with Dorree as they're service was really good. Laura
  10. Congratulations and best of luck for your new life down under x

  12. Hi I don't have any answers for you just wanted to wish you the best of luck and I hope everything works out for you. We all make mistakes but the most important thing is that we learn from them and by the sounds of things you've gone out of your way to do this. Good luck laura x
  13. Hi Annette Thanks for that info thats really useful and reasuring to know that I might be able to get a similar job. We're heading to Brisbane in November this year which is exciting but nervewracking also! Best of luck with your medicals and the rest of your visa process. Laura x
  14. Hi all. I'm trying to do a bit of research. We're going on our Validation trip in Feb with a view to moving out permanetly in Nov this year. I am a Treatment Room nurse in Scotland and wanted to know if there is an equivalent in Australia. I aimed to start job hunting while there if Feb and wanted to know what kind of jobs to be looking at. Any information you can give me would be really appreciated. Cheers laura
  15. Hi Simon From what I can gather its becoming more difficult for newly qualified staff nurses from here to get into the graduate programe in oz as nurses who have trained in australia are being given preference. I'm not 100% sure about this as i'm only going on what i've read on the forum but i'm sure someone who actually works in Australia might be able to give u a more accurate answer. Laura
