  1. Does the direct entry route mean I have to wait 2 years? and then do this through employer? If I did apply for PR based on eligibility what visa would I need to apply for? am I right in thinking this is the 190?
  2. Hi All, Apologies if this has been asked previously. My wife, 1 year old son and myself moved to Adelaide at end of November from the UK on a work sponsored 457 visa. Now we are here we have fallen in love with the lifestyle here. We're convinced we won't want to return home and have thought about applying for PR early rather than waiting for the 2 years for the temporary residence transitional visa route. Apart from loving life here, we want to buy a home here rather than renting so we can settle further and also already having a 1 year old and another baby on the way my wife would love to return to work once the baby has arrived and she has spend maybe 9 -12 months with the baby, I understand as we're on a 457 visa we wont get any help with childcare and with 2 children to pay for childcare this makes returning to work almost unviable without any help. I understand if we become PR we would be entitled to the same assistance with child care costs as Australian citizens? My wife is a secondary school teacher and even if she achieved a decent wage paying child care for 2 would eat a massive chunk out of her salary. When looking to purchase a house we were told as we are temp residents we would need to pay $5k fee for FIRB approval for any property purchase which seems like a waste to me as id be better off spending the money on becoming PR. What options do we have In achieving PR? Im sure my employer would be happy to sponsor PR if that is an option or I could probably achieve PR through skills. I hope this makes sense but any advice is appreciated! Thank you in advance
  3. Thanks for your reply Andy. Is there a way you can get a general FIRB approval so it is not specific to a property? This is putting us off the auction massively as we have a budget so if we lost out then we would have wasted the $5k fee for FIRB approval. In terms of building inspection are there any companies you would recommend? We are on the 457 visa and wishing we had gone the PR route now, as transferring to PR we will have to wait until we complete the 2 years. Any advice is appreciated
  4. Hi All We are in Adelaide on a 457 visa and currently we are renting. We have seen a property we love and have arranged pre approval with ANZ to allow us to bid in the auction for the property. ANZ have now said that we need FIRB approval to purchase the house. I filled in the form online and was told it would be $5k!! for the fee! Is this right? what happens if we pay this fee then lose out on the auction? Seems a lot of money to throw away and not end up getting a property. Would I need to get this done again if we missed out on this property but later found another property we wanted to buy? This would be our main residence.
  5. Visa application approved 16th November!! Wahoo now to book flights
  6. Hi All In the UK we kept a cottage type garden and actually enjoyed being outdoors doing the garden and now we are a few weeks from going to live in Adelaide I wondered if any one had any basic information or websites that would be a good source of information on how gardening is going to be different in Aus. I guess there are heaps of plants that wont survive in Australia and heaps that we couldn't grow in the UK but do well in Australia. we will be living near Adelaide I wondered if there are water type bans etc like we have in the UK when it gets remotely warm for more than a week or two! Any info most welcome! cheers
  7. I've double checked all the details and they match perfectly - The agent has tried using the information I have used and been given access. He suggested I contact the help desk via email but I can't find this?
  8. Hi all - I have the TRN number for my visa application that was lodged on 2nd Nov by an agent. when I try using this to check the status I am getting an error message "The following errors have been encountered:The applicant details entered do not match this TRN. This information must be what was entered for the main applicant. Please check, and try again." I am using this web address https://www.ecom.immi.gov.au/inquiry/query/query.do?action=eVisa. when my agent tries it works fine but it wont work for me, I have checked all info and re-entered several times but still no luck.... any ideas? my agent suggested contacting the e-business help desk - but I can only find a phone number for them and no email address - does any one have one I could email the query to? Also I am under the impression that for tax purposes those working on a 457 visa will be deemed "resident" - can any one confirm this please?
  9. Really? I had hoped it would be a lot quicker than that based on some of the peoples timelines on here and the nomination stage taking 4 weeks.?!
  10. Hi All Applying for 457 visa from UK to Australia (Adelaide SA) here are my timelines to date.... any idea how long the last stage might take?
