Hi all. Looking for some advice on driving in Australia. I now have a two year visa, so looking to pick up a car. What should I be aware of? Any tips on insurance? I dont have an Australian licence, only UK. Is this an issue? Any road tax equivalent I should be aware of? Pitfalls/protection when buying privately? Thanks in advance!!

How open to negotiation are landlords/agents? Is it expected that the tenant pay the asking price or that it is negotiated downwards? Thanks!

Hi All. I've been in Melbourne a few months, waiting for my 457 visa to be applied for (should happen this week). Not expecting any issues. I'm fed up of moving around whilst this happens. Two questions: 1) can the company I work for sign a 12 months lease on an apartment? 2) can I sign a lease, even if I only have a tourist visa? It would be great to settle somewhere knowing I dont have to move again for a while! Thanks

Hello forum! New poster here.... I move to Melbourne in a weeks time and was wondering how owning a car works. 1) I assume eventually I'll need an AU driving licence - what are the rules around this? 2) Car insurance isn't a legal requirement like it is at home but I assume most people get it anyway - will I hit high premiums with my UK licence? 3) Good places to buy a car in Melbourne? Any car supermarket type places? 4) any MOT style requirements? Anything else relevant would be really useful. Thanks!
