  1. All local gp surgeries and the local hospital affected- no access to blood tests/pt details or xr. All IT and most of phones down. Staff currently handing out wallow talkies. Nightmare. Across most of England at the moment

    Bribie Island

I lived on the east side of Bribie- In woorim - for a year in 1999 when I worked in Caboolture Hospital- I loved it - used to go running on the beach before work and look for pods of dolphins, and dugongs under the bridge. It was beautiful but oh my god it used to just SHUT at 6pm. No where to eat, one cinema in a shed where you got to choose the film and the man running it used to bring out mugs of tea on a tray half way through, no where to go for a beer, and the roads used to just clog up on pension day - I seem to remember there was a special driving license for pensioners to drive on pension day only - but perhaps the isolation is making me mis-remember :)) I guess it must have changed a bit since then....... Well, it must have made an impression because all these years later me and OH are trying to come back!
  3. Thanks for all the advice - my husband is a hospital doctor and lead visa holder. Whilst I'm happy to have a few months off as my current job is carnage and I'm slightly broken , would like to return to work at some point! Not sure whether DWS restrictions apply to me as the fact that I've worked in Queensland for 18 months in 2000 is apparently helpful? Just trying to find out if I can work as a Dr on a spouse visa, or if I need to apply for a separate visa in my own right. All seems sooo complicated...
  4. Try the UK to Australia GP group on Facebook - they are really helpful
  5. Thanks for the info - it will probably be good for them to have a few months to ' catch up' a bit. Need to start looking at junior schools as well now then! X
  6. Many thanks, that's really helpful x
  7. Hi we are hoping to move across to Brisbane in July/August. I've been having a reccie at the local schools - my oldest daughter is 13 (dob 1/5/03) and will have finished year 9, youngest is 11 (22/11/05) and will have finished y6 in the uk and moving up to senior school for the next academic year. was looking at senior schools - but then realised that my youngest might still need another year of primary in Oz??? because trying to find one school wasn't stressful enough already ? Anyone know what year she'd be in Oz?
  8. I can see there are several supportive nurse threads on here - are there any doctors who have made the move? OH is a hospital doctor currently applying for jobs as lead visa holder, I'm a gp. We've 2 kids aged 13 and 11 yrs. Wondered if anyone could share their experiences ? TIA
  9. Many thanks Baggo that's really helpful. All sounds very complicated! Will check out DNUK and start googling .
  10. Many thanks for the replies- from the website it seems I qualify for a class 1 (unrestricted) entry re qualifications as I have MRCGP & other qualifications that are considered interchangable with the Aussie versions. The problem I think if I wanted to work would be that new overseas GPs have to go to areas of need? I wouldn't be too happy having to leave hubby and kids if there wasn't one locally. Although I had heard that female GPs with gynae qualifications were in short supply? Moratorium - sounding thick but what would that be???? Sorry to sound dense this has all been a bit sudden .
  11. Hello my husband is a hospital doctor and considering a job offer in Queensland. We are looking hard at the pros and cons of moving over with kids aged 10 and 13. We would be coming over on his visa . Whilst living as a dependent initially, I would also want to work at some point too (I'm a GP). Do I need my own visa? As I wouldn't have a fixed jobs when we go over I wouldn't be able to have an employer to sponsor me though. Or can I work in my own right as a GP after coming over as his dependent?? We've both worked in Oz before in 2000 for 18 months and would love to come back if all works out!
