  1. In short, both are lovely. Id say Devon as a preference. So many beautiful towns and villages.
  2. I believe you can, as a nurse. Not a midwife though. Australian qualified midwives are expected to do more learning in the UK before they can register. However nurses dont. I have worked with a few Australian dual qualified nurse/midwives who went to England but could only practice as nurses. You will need to gather and provide evidence to the NMC (registering body) of your education, such as transcripts from your course proving the modules you learned, hours youve worked etc. I had to do this here in Aus (qualified in UK) and it took 6 months to get registered, so get started asap Once you are registered, you'll get a job quick smart I would imagine.
  3. Hi, we were only granted PR this year and it has a date of 2025 on it. If we leave australia for a year or more, can we still return without an rrv as long as its before 2025?
  4. I have just read through this whole chat and found it really helpful. I wish all the best to everyone trying to navigate such a big decision. We came in 2016 as temp visa holders and gained pr ths year. Our daughter was 8 and son was 3 when we came. Lets just say, our daughter has never really gotten into the groove of Australia. Marisa, you hit the nail on the head for me when you said 'some people feel a persistent ache or loss when separated from their family or homeland' . Ive come to learn and recognise this is her. She is 12 now. Covid has impacted her greatly and she is very isolated and very low in mood. Myself and hubby and son are all reasonably settled and happy but ofcourse we are very aware that not all of us are. My daughter is grade 7 and we are not eligible to apply for citizenship until next year, and the wait is obviously long after application, at which point she would be right in the middle of high school. Not a good time to move her. I would appreciate people's thoughts! I know ultimately no-one can tell you what to do, but its good to get outside perspectives.
  5. I certainly dont value your extremely blunt/rude input thats for sure. How could I not do it myself..... I did the english test, I did the skills assessment. I collated all my degree paperwork and the like and I certainly did not say it was simple anywhere in my post. You cant make an assumption about me that I wouldnt value someones input. Hope you have a better day tomorrow and try to be kinder to people who are just trying tHeir best.
  6. I am about to submit a PR application for 190 visa in vic. We have been here 3.5 years already. Its pretty straight forward, family of four, applying for skilled visa. I dont have a migration agent and have done everything myself so far. Would you recommend getting a MA to review before submitting? Im not sure how I could get it wrong..... but theres a little bit of me thats worried!
  7. Foxy, are you in the country? I have been in aus on a temp visa for 3.5 yrs as a partner on 457. Put in eoi beg december 190 vic midwife, received invite beg april on 70+5 points. I think if you are in the country youve got a good chance. If outside, chances are slim. Athough as a casually emloyed midwife, hardly getting any work at all during this pandemic.
  8. Thank you all for your suggestions. Nick, the west looks tempting as has nice new houses which are very affordable! But I get the impression the infrastructure has not caught up with the amount of houses built. Its a shame. I shall certainly be looking at all suburbs mentioned.
  9. Hey guys! We are emigrating to Melbourne in 2 weeks. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children aged 8&3. We have a temporary place to stay in Carlton for 1 month. My husband starts his job 5 days after we arrive, so its my job to look at houses and schools asap. As its impossible to cover all suburbs and schools,Ii want to narrow down to 6 suburbs. Ofcourse we have done lots of research already but I am keen to hear suggestions from you guys. -Budget is 600pw -My husband will work from home so dont need to be too close to the city. However, His office is based in Port Melbourne and he will have to go there at some points during the working week. -i would like somewhere where there are young families to meet. -good public transport links -ofcourse, nice schools. Thanks in advance!
  10. We have also been looking for 2 ad 2 ch. We found an airbnb place. It didnt matter too much where we were as its a temporary stay until we find a perm home. It was expensive though!
  11. Hi all. Uk midwife here. Going to melbourne on husbands 457 visa 2 children in tow! Downloaded the registeationform this week...cant even look at it! It looks so complex.
  12. Currently waiting for 457 approval. We are going to melbourne with my husbands employer (2 children in tow!) We have started the process of renting out property etc. his employer advised it will take 4-6 weeks! Is that not realistic in peoples experiences?
  13. Thanks all for ypur input. Its greatly appreciated at this crucial time of trying to make a decision!?!?
  14. Thank you all for your input. My husband will work from home (its a field based role) so his car and travel expenses are covered by the company. Yes, we plan on living in mornington? I would thencommute to wherever i get a job. Id like to do bank work. Maybe 2 shifts a week? The spreadsheet is very helpful thank you.
