    Pets to UK

Hi We brought our cat with us from the UK, and she was very nervous and didn't like strangers and she coped fine. We are returning to the UK in 2 weeks time and we now have 2 cats that we adopted from the RSPCA who are coming with us, we have moved interstate with them and both coped well with that. They are very insecure but are happy as long as they are with us. We are currently in a serviced apartment as moved out of our home and they settled in 24 hours. My cats are my family and I couldn't leave them behind. We are using Jet pets and so far they have been very good and helpful. I have called them so many times with different questions and changing my mind and they are always helpful and nothing too much trouble. I am very high maintenance! ?
  3. Yes I agree about unemployment set to get worse, Holden are going to close later this year so that is going to have a huge effect on unemployment and a lot of other businesses.

    What to do?

So sorry to hear your news  I hope you manage to get your flights organised soon.
  6. Hi, sorry to hear about your relative. My husband is a mechanic and I have been looking into this, from what I can find you don't have to pay import tax if you have had your permenant home outside the EU for 12 months and are moving your permenant home back to the UK, and have owned the goods for more than 6 months and paid tax/VAT in the country of purchase. You have to arrive in the country before your goods, and keep them for 12 months once they arrive back in the U.K. My husband owned most of his tools in the UK and brought them with him to Australia. Do you still have the shipping list from when you moved here? That would at least prove that you brought them in the UK. Good luck with the move.
  7. Hello, we are planning on moving back to the UK next year. My husband is a mechanic and I have been looking into this, from what I can find you don't have to pay import tax if you have had your permenant home outside the EU for 12 months and are moving your permenant home back to the UK, and have owned the goods for more than 6 months and paid tax/VAT in the country of purchase. 8. Hello, I feel for you we are on a 457 visa and my husband was made redundant twice last year, he did not work for 5 months in 2015. Luckily he was out of work for less than 90 days each time. My husband is a fully quilified car mechanic. Have you looked into moving to another state? That's what we ended up doing, we were in Adelaide but have moved to Melbourne a lot more work available here. Good luck with everything I hope it all works out.
  9. Yes thank you, I love auto correct! That'll teach me to proof read.
  10. Welcome to the forum. Regarding council tax if you have a look at houses for sale on Zooplankton.co.uk for the type of house you are looking for and scroll down to the bottom it normally has the monthly council tax amount on there. Not sure how accurate it is? Worth a look. There are also properties on there up for rent. Good luck with your move.
  11. Yes it's terrible and I agree it doesn't change despite lots of reports being written about it! Not sure what the answer is? Sounds like your wife's got the right idea!
  12. Sadly I don't think it is just the UK this kind of behaviour occurs in. In my line of work I see bullying and sexual harassment going on in a lot of companies here in Australia, there was an independent report about it going on in Victoria Police at the end of 2015, you can google it and read if you're interested.
  13. I have always wondered why British people are so obsessed with the weather? I just found this interesting information: According to recent research, 94% of British respondents admit to having conversed about the weather in the past six hours, while 38% say they have in the past 60 minutes. “This means at almost any moment in this country, at least a third of the population is either talking about the weather, has already done so or is about to do so,” I'm not sure it would have a big impact on my decision to move half way around the world:huh: I live in Melbourne so you never know what your going to get? Yesterday it was 31 and today 19, always go out prepared for 3 different seasons only thing I haven't seen is snow:wink:
  14. I wouldn't move due to the weather, it gets cold here too. Granted not as cold as the UK but the houses aren't insulated and there is no central heating, we do have forced air heating but it really dries out my skin! First world problems. Not all houses have this in every room. When it is anything over 35 I hate it, I'm sure I am getting worse as I get older. I remember one week in South Australia it was over 40 everyday it was horrendous, you can't dress for that! My poor husbands a mechanic so he really suffered even though they had evaporative air conditioning. We did not have AC in the bedrooms in our house so ended up sleeping on the sofa to get some sleep! My point is I don't think not liking the cold should be a reason to move to the other side of the world. Also I do not know what you or your husband do for work? Finding work can be difficult so make sure you research where you are moving to and make sure there is plenty of work in your husbands area, or he has a job offer. I have only lived in Melbourne and Adelaide and the Melbourne job market is much better. I think given you are pregnant and have young children and are not sure you want to move and are comfortable where you are I would stay put for now! Money isn't everything but if you can't afford to do what you want and are struggling you will be very unhappy here no matter how warm it is. I knew within 4 weeks of moving it wasn't for me, it took my husband longer to get to this point. 4 years and 2 states later I still feel the same way. Trust your gut!
  15. "I feel like a square peg in a round hole. I think it was Quoll who said this first, but this is how I feel - like at first the round hole was big enough to accommodate me and my square edges, just with the occasional bump. However, as time goes on I feel like the hole is getting smaller and smaller, and I feel like I am really struggling to fit. My corners feel battered and bruised, and I don't know if I could live like this indefinitely." You have just put into words exactly how I feel! It's like you could read my mind. We currently live in Melbourne and will be returning to the UK next year, we won't be returning to the same area as our families. If I'm honest we aren't that close to our families so that is not part of the reason we are moving back to the UK. We don't have any children either. We have been here over 4 years and have lived in Adelaide and Melbourne, prefer Melbourne over Adelaide but still not for us. Plus the economy in Adelaide at the moment is great and with Holden closing next year isn't going to help.
