We have opted for Collingwood after my daughter won a Collingwood hat at school for being the best kicker and also my team from back in the UK was Newcastle Utd,the Magpies!Also went for Melbourne City in the soccer!

I live in Berwick,arrived here on the 31st December 2016 with my wife and 2 kids.We love it here,pros are the village feel it has but with the city not to far away you have the best of both worlds. Cons are obviously the commute if you are working in the city,I work around the CBD but travel in early in the morning to avoid the really heavy traffic,coming home is a hit or a miss really,Fridays are particularly bad due to most knocking off early. Schools are great as well,we enrolled our 2 at Timbarra and they love it,settled so easily. Good luck in your journey,there ain't much not to love about Berwick. Gary.

We moved here in December last year on the 189 permanent residency visa,will any of these new law changes effect us?

Arrived in Melbourne on the 31st December 2016 with my wife and two kids aged 6 and 9.We settled in the south east suburb of Berwick which is just perfect,good little village vibe but also a short commute to the CBD so best of both worlds really. My wife and I both had jobs lined up when we arrived so got off to a good start but iv since moved jobs as has my wife as the jobs we had weren't quite what they were made out to be but we both managed to secure full time jobs within a week of leaving our other jobs and are both really settled now. Kids have settled in well in there new school and are making new friends daily. On conclusion,we as a family are loving our new life in Australia,it is a million miles away from what we were used to in Scotland.The lifestyle here is fantastic as long as you come here in the knowing that you have to work hard to achieve a good life in this country.

If he is a painter to trade he will qualify for the 189 Skilled Visa,i arrived 5 weeks ago in Melbourne on the same visa with the same skill.Far as i know its still on the skills shortage list.

Hey, We arrived in Melbourne on new years eve,hired an SUV for a couple of days just to get all the luggage to our rental then rented a smaller car to get us around,had the hire car for 6 days in total before we bought our 2 cars at a place called CarCity,most cars in places like this will have a drive away sticker on the windscreen with the price and thats all you pay.We took one away that day and then picked up the other the following morning.Only advice i have is shope around and if you have hard cash you will get a good deal on the cars. Well tomorrow is the day we finally make the move over to Melbourne,we fly from Glasgow at 1pm via Dubai.We are very excited and strangely we dont appear to have any nerves about what is about to happen.:wink::smile:

Myself and my wife have both secured jobs prior to arrival so we have no worries in that respect.

We did our reccie in May so set the end of the year for our departure.We plan on settling in the Berwick area South East of Melbourne.

Well thats all our belongings packed up and taken away by the shipping company,44 days and counting and we will arrive in Melbourne.Exciting times:smile:

So after my Skype interview last week i was delighted to be offered the job today:smile:Absolutely over the moon,another piece of the jigsaw completed.Roll on December 29th.

Well i had my first Skype interview yesterday at 6am UK time,surreal experience but a good one and i think it went well,just a waiting game now to see if i was successful.Interviewer said he will be in touch beginning of the week. We as a family of 4 arrive in Melbourne 31st December so a job offer would be a big plus before we arrive.
