  1. Thanks Andy for your advice. I will have at chat to mum about it and we will probably give you a call. Thanks Stephanie.
  2. Hi Andrew, My mum moved to Oz in February 2016 on a perm resident visa - she is over 65. She has transferred a lump sum of money to Oz. We are unsure what to do with the money now (its currently just sitting in a standard savings account) - we have been to the bank and an accountant however we are more confused than when we started! We don't believe either of them really understood the tax implications and therefore were unavailable to provide us with the best way in which to manage the money. We have a couple of components we need assistance on: 1. Tax: Mum three small pensions from the UK - we were advised she will continue to pay tax on these in the UK however, the tax she pays in the UK will be used as an offset for any tax she pays in Oz (the UK tax paid will be entered on to her tax return) - is that correct? 2. Savings (Lump Sum): 1. Can Mum set up SMSF? 2. Mum is happy to take small / medium risk in terms of investing the money. She just wants to protect what she has. Are you able to assist? Thanks in advance. Stephanie.
  3. After 2 years and 7 weeks finally the second VAC request - with the following note attached "I prepared your email on 09 November 2015 and due to some flaw within our system the email did not get sent. Please accept my apology and note that the 28 days due date start from today." So Mum could have been here for Christmas after all!  At least we are nearly complete. It's been a long time coming!
  4. My mum will be on the other Peninsular - we are in Drysdale on the Bellarine. A beautiful part of the country.
  5. Hi Everyone, just wondering if it is worth a call to immigration? Mum applied for Contributory Parent visa in 28th Oct 2013. Case officer was assigned July 2015. All forms including Police check, Assurance of Support, medical etc were submitted by early Sept 2015. Since then nothing......... What are your thoughts? I know it is just a matter of waiting but it's been such a long time since we emailed the police check. Mums house is sold and we are literally waiting for a request for the 2nd VAC. We have not used an agent - is that the problem? We haven't been advised anything is wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Poor mum is stressed out of her mind! Thanks in advance.
  6. I know. It is for my mum - Contributory parent visa - we have submitted all the papers and I called them 5 weeks ago (on hold for two hours) only to be told she is in final processing and we will hear soon. I was also told that there are no red flags on the file so just need to wait. I am not sure what else we can do. I am visiting the uk at the moment as her house has sold so we are packing up - however we can't get anything shipped until the visa comes through. I swear this has been the fasted house sale in history! If anyone has any suggestions it will be great fully appreciated!
  7. How frustrating! What date did you pri ally apply for your visa, we are still waiting - we applied 31st Oct 2013. We are in final processing. Fingers crossed your payment goes through today!
  8. Hi Guys......so mum finally had a request for her police clearance and last page of passport after waiting for close to 2 years (her application date was Oct 2013). The email stated the other documents had been assessed. We submitted the information requested however have not heard anything for the last 6 weeks....we guess the next stage is asking for the 2nd instalment........does anyone know how long it might be until we hear now? It is causing a lot of anxiety! I know I am asking how long a piece of string is but thought someone might be able to shed some light. Thanks in advance.
  9. My mum had a case officer appointed about a month ago and submitted the police clearance last week, so we are just waiting now.......waiting waiting waiting. It is exciting, frustrating and makes me feel sick just waiting for the email to pop in to the inbox!
  10. Love the information and photos! Mum is moving here and is looking to bring her expensive three piece Laura Ashley suite. Do you think a three piece suite will fit in the large cube?
  11. Thanks Alan, that was our next hurdle, so appreciate the heads up - I think Mum was just going to head into her local bank to arrange it......
  12. Thanks for your response. Awesome news, yes she completed the medical exam a few months ago and I did the Assurance of Support at the beginning of the year. She has the money ready to transfer - so just waiting for the request. Fingers crossed we are in the closing stages. I will get her to put the house on the market as I really would love her to be here by Xmas!!! It is so exciting! I have been living in Oz for 15 yrs and now have two children. Mum desperately wants to be here to see them growing up.
  13. Hello, I have just discovered this forum and you guys! Great information. My mum applied in October 2013 and has just received the request for the Police Check and Copy of photo page of Passport. Just wondering if this means all the other documents have been approved and this is the final stage before they ask for the money? Also, does anyone know what the timeframe might be now as to when she has the visa granted? I presume its after the money has been paid. With all of that said.......should she put her house on the market now? She is living in Essex. Once the visa is granted, how long does she have before she actually has to enter Australia? Thanks in advance.....
