Hi, Me and my girlfriend are currently staying on Chevron Island, 15 minute walk from Surfers Paradise. Been here almost a month now. Found it hard to get work. My girlfriends a hairdressers and has just got a job at a local salon. Only casual as and when they need. I have only just got a job at a call centre. Don't think it will least long for both parties. So it seems casual work is the norm. Applied for loads face to face and online and didn't have much or any luck. If anyone has any advice of work locally that would be great as here until the start of May.

Apartment booked on arrival for 3 months. Just looking to set up a bank account and transfer money before arriving.

Good luck Jade. My partner and I also arrive in Australia in March. Booked our flights with STA, always check with trailfinders if you have one in your area. Also checked the airlines website but prices are all similar. Paid £650 each in the end. Direct flight to Thailand, one month stopover then direct flight to Brisbane. Just looking to open an Oz bank account now and transfer money before we arrive.

Thanks for you input guys. Still undecided but will most likely rent the apartment on arrival, find work before moving around. Also thanks for the info regarding tax file number.

Hi All, My partner and I are have got our Working holiday visas approved, flights booked and saving hard for entry early March 2016. Still have the obvious things to arrange Bank account, Insurance, Tax numbers etc. Which will be done between now and before we arrive. Any further advise would be appreciated. The plan is to fly into Brisbane and work and travel around the Queensland area, with the possibility of applying for the second year visa after doing the relevant work. We have got the option to rent a holiday apartment on our arrival from a family member back in the UK. For between one and three months. The property being in Chevron Island, Near Surfers paradise. Me and my girlfriend cant decide weather to take up the option on the apartment and for how long. As not sure if it would be wise to tie ourselves down for a period of time, as may not be able to find work etc. The other half of us thinks it would be nice to be settled in one place.
