  1. Its not classed as a substantial criminal record so you may be ok. but you will never know until right at the end when they ok your visa. by that time you would have spent all the money. I know one person who got refused for something silly when they were 18. just make sure you declare it on your EOI which will before police check
  2. Its nurofen for babies I'm not sure if theres an ozzie own brand or how much it is.??? but if there is then good! I understand there will be products that will be the same price and that you can shop at target for clothes but call me a snob but target isn't the type of place i would buy my clothes its the of the UK's Matalan/Primark its ok for baby grows and knickers but i wouldn't buy a nice dress for a night out or high quality shoes in target. i just think that for a full shop it will be cheaper in the UK. and i think theres a bigger choice
  3. The UK is so cheap for food clothes beauty products and medication. If you have been living is oz for a while this may be a surprise. You can go to places like LIDAL, ASDA and Tescos and buy everything you need for cheap, from clothes to garden furniture to TVs. Most of your daily needs such as crisps, milk, 1l coke are ONE POUND!! the superstores are always at war and although a lot of their deals are cons...it is way cheaper than oz. Im moving to oz in July and I'm in the process of packing and organising things to send over to oz. we are expecting a baby and so I have been comparing prices on things and the majority of things i have bought here. for example the baby monitor we have 100 pounds in oz 357 dollars. nurofen for babies 3pound same bottle in coles is 17dollars. the only things we are buying in oz are the pram and cot just because the prices are so similar. I have NO IDEA why the ozzies are ripped off so badly. people have said its because of the distance and things needing to be exported but as most things are made in china....surely the UK is further. people can say you earn more but a bottle of nurofen should not be 3 times the price and the weekly shop should not be so expensive. Even sun tan lotion is cheaper in the UK and we hardly ever get to use it. Saying that its just something I will have to get used to and accept.
  4. If you've just started the Visa process you may not even be able to arrive in Oz Until after the baby is born, it took us 6/7 months in total never mind organising some where to live etc. Home births are not common in Oz so i would say it was a risk. If your husbands been offered a job would they be flexible to wait until after the baby is born? to clarify if you have a 190 visa ad are from the UK your birth is covered by medicare just things like blood tests and ultrasounds you need to pay for . you could always email medicare or ring them for advice x
  5. Hi , Im in a similar situation to you although I am a UK resident. I have a PR visa 190 and we have booked flights for July 2015 and booked our shipping container and told employers and then I find out I'm pregnant due in October 2015 As you can imagine family have been devastated and they were all hoping that it would mean we would not be going. I have been very ill with morning sickness which is lasting all day and I'm not looking forward to being pregnant on a 24hour flight but this is our dream and we have decided to have the baby in Adelaide. As I am a UK resident all i have to pay for is blood tests and ultrasound because if an Ozzie had a baby in the UK it would be free and they NHS would not charge her government- apparently theres an agreement between both countries. medi care will cover most costs. through a lot of research i have discovered that there is no real difference between private and medicare apart from the big cost. one lady i spoke to ended up giving birth with a midwife despite paying for a doctor who was out on his boat and missed the birth but she still paid her huge fee! Which part of Australia are you going to? Just register for medicare as soon as your plane lands and look at local hospitals and GP practices. good luck
  6. Hi everyone! My husband and I are moving to Adelaide in July 2015. I have a job as an agency nurse however my husband who has 6 years experience in sales is finding it very hard to find a job. He currently sells and manages multimillion accounts within construction. He also has sales and account management experience in different areas. He is the top seller at his current company and is earning a good wage. Not one person has looked at his CV or shown any interest and its a very good CV. He has even applied for temporary jobs which are completely below his level and experience yet no one will take him. We are hoping that once we are over he will find it easier.???????????????? Everyone is saying 'its not what you know but who you know in Adelaide" or 'its Adelaide go to Melbourne" but we have family in Adelaide and our hearts are set on it. Why is it so hard to get a job in South Australia? can any one recommend any agencies to work with or any ways to approach future employers? Thanks
  7. Im aware the sun does not always shine in Oz and a little rain does everyone good, however the weather in the UK can be depressing especially when it seems to rain for weeks on end. after living in London for 2 years I would never want to live in a big city again Sydney its too big and busy and expensive although its nice for a visit. A&E nurses work hard everywhere i don't think Ozzie nurses work any harder. It could be argued that nurses who are working in poorly run NHS hospitals with ridiculous staffing pressures and are being paid 12 pound an hour have a harder time. I dont like the attitudes of the young today, the way they act and dress (I'm only 26) I have nephews in the UK and OZ and there is a huge difference in their nature this may have something to do with the age children change to secondary school or the fact they are into their outdoor activities rather than xbox and ipads. Yes it could also be argued that the parenting is a massive influence but both my sisters are very similar. Oz is years behind the UK in many ways and it will take adjusting but thats what I like. Im sure it will eventually catch up. I heard Brisbane has an H&M now Maybe I'm just an old women at heart.
  8. I am moving because of a few things. 1- I've always wanted to live abroad especially Australia 2- I have family in Australia 3- The weather and therefore lifestyle is the big bonus 4- I can earn way more as a nurse in oz than the UK plus the hospitals and work environment is better 5- Poor immigration in the UK which leads to people screwing our services - 6- The UK has nothing but trouble to come. I do not want to bring up any future child in such an environment. 7- Europe as beautiful as it is - its too close to danger 8- The british have become push overs -ozzies say it how it is and the honesty is a breath of fresh air! 9- Did i mention the sun will be shining!!
