Thanks to those who replied. It seems most info on the northern territory from individuals is to some extent mostly negative. We have been to Palmerston and now have friends there. Would have liked to get more from people on the ground. Being a mechanic as well would be nice to hear from similar professions for a better picture of what its like

Hi folks, We are looking at migrating to the NT not sure where we will settle in the end, as is job dependant. We can only meet the requirements for a 489 visa. Whats the worst and best bits of the NT. Im a car enthusiast and a motor mech and my oh is in financial services. Just looking for general info and enthusiast groups is they exist. Not classic cars though and not hoonigans either lol. Any info greatly appreciated

How about the 4 year temporary residence visa, 489 i think. Skilled but state sponsored, are you concidered a resident for tax purposes or is your tax bracket higher until residence is granted. OP thanks for a very good question

My thing is whichever direction you are going, rose tinted windows and trying to live the dream is a lot of migrants' downfall. Having relocated to a few countries myself i have learnt that if you look at starting from ground roots up you will always make it bar the push and pull of loved ones and so on. Whichever country you end up in you are responsible for your own happiness. You could be in the sun and miserable or in the rain and snow and ecstatically happy. Expectations need to be lowered and realities be more critically looked at studied before moving to the other side of the world

We are currently in the process with Visa bureau and all is well. Sue Tempany was dealing with our case but has since left but there has been no let up at all. I would happily recommend these guys to anyone. Darren is knowledgable and very accomodating always at the other end of our calls ready with answers. Very honest when it comes to updates and what to expect

Matt Thompson. matt@British English online.Com very helpful fella and his tutor Monika helped me through mine. I had the words and 5he vocabulary but lacked the structure. These guys know what the examiners are looking for. They come highly recommended I hope this helps :-)

Sking83 thanks for the heads up. Was the interview 3 hours long or were u at the centre for 3 hours. As u say it's trade related questions, is it fully technical with specs, a general chat or something more based on procedures? I guess the interviews are not all the same but having an idea from someone that's been through it is always helpful. Thanks

Hi Matt Im in the same boat. I have heard on good authority that they ask basic but detailed questions so i think brushing up on your theory would be good prep. Hopefully someone who has done it will answer tour post and we can all get a heads up. I was told it was a 2 hour conversation. Hope this helps but im just as blind as you are and panicking too. AC
