hey guys! I am arriving to Brisbane next week on WHV (462). I have over six (6) years experience in Human Resources and would love to get job in HR field as an HR assistant and/or generalist. Please advice if you know any places that are hiring. Also, would be interested in any other admin jobs, etc... I am not picky. hey James, hope you can find something. I am also on WHV traveling to Brisbane in less than two weeks. Just keep trying and keep applying. I am sure you will find something. That's what i've been doing. Although, it's hard to find something when your out of country.

Hi Guys! I have a quick question: I am US citizen and have small HR Consulting Firm in the US. I am traveling to Australia on Working Holiday Visa(462). While staying in Australia, I plan to work remotely for US company and work in Australia as well. The problem is, with WHV I am limited to work only six (6) months for each employer. What visa could I get so I can work longer than six (6) months while staying in Australia; for both US company and for Australian employer. Someone said to get 457 visa, but those are given only if your sponsored through Australian company. Is there a different visa I could get? I am 28 years old, not married – no kids either. Is it an option to get business visa? Thank you in advance! Alex

Well, working remotely for my current employer that's in US wasn’t my original plan… my plan was to get WHV travel to Australia and work there.. just to get different experience, learn new things, etc... But, my employer really wants to keep me on payroll. I am specialist in few areas and that’s why he asked if I can work part-time hours remotely. Just to help them out. How about if they change my status from “employee” to “contractor” ? Would that make any difference? I would hate to violate laws and/or get banned from Australia. I guess, it’s better just to quit my job in US and work in Australia. To stay out of trouble.

That is correct. And, I am going to file taxes as always. I just don’t understand why payroll department kept telling me that I will be double tax. Basically, they are saying because I am in different country they need to set up in payroll system so I get taxed. But, I am already taxed in US. And, once I get job in Australia I will get taxed in Australia as well. Maybe they think I am considered as “expatriate” but I shouldn’t right? Since, I am just traveling for short period of time.

Thanks for the reply. I don’t want to put myself nor company at risk. Definitely want to do the right thing – so I don’t get in trouble. Now, just make me think if it'sworth it? If I’ll be working only 5 – 10 hours a week then maybe it’s not worth going through this hassle. At the same time, extra income would be a huge help! Ugh, can’t it be more simpler! J

I am flying to Brisbane, Australia on WHV. Once i get there, will let you know how things are going with me. I have friends in Brisbane, and they said they had no problem finding job there. It's a beautiful city and not far from Gold Coast. If you want, you will always find a job! Just must have desire. yes, it's more expensive in Australia; however, you get paid more than in your country or in US. To give you an example: In Austrlia housekeeping makes more than receptionist in US. Of course, cost of living is more expensive. But, you can do roomshare, stay in hostel etc...
