Recession? Sales jobs?
Hi all, have heard that Oz is finally entering a recession. I works in sales/account management. Do you think I will have a lot of difficulty finding work in Sydney? Have heard British experience is like gold-dust over there, but I have just started a new job here which I am enjoying so I am not sure about leaving it to go over to Sydney if there is a prospect of not being able to find any work out there.(my boyfriend has just been offered a job there so we are thinking of moving, but I’m worried I wont find one)

Where did you hear we are finally entering recession? I haven't heard that?
Unfortunately I think you'll find Australian experience, rather than British, is like gold dust in Australia.
I think no matter where you go at the moment there is the prospect of not being able to find any work...but saying that unemployment is still only roughly 6% so probably better here then elsewhere. Of course any job you have back home already is the most secure of all because you already have it....but if you're young with no resposibilites then I would give it a go.

fish.01 is right. British experiernce will count for little? Its strange where these ideas/theories come from???
Having said that I think good sales people will find work in tough times and these aren't yet tough times anyway.
Don't let a recession dictate your life, I say?

I know you are going to Sydney, but according to Melbourne's daily newspaper today (Sat) Australia is well placed at the moment.

And as for the british experience, we have so many migrants who have made a life here, there are lots of different accents in the shops, and they all bring their experience with them from whatever country they come from - we have thriving Italian, Greek, Chinese, Indian etc communities here, and also there are lots of long time Brits in shops too (especially women's clothing stores I find, I always chat away to them about the UK). You should have a reasonable chance of getting a job, much the same as anyone else. Best of luck to you.
