Hi Debbi,
i am a Probation Officer in UK and been looking. WA are likely to be running a recruitment campagin later this year for Prison Officers, |Probation Officers and social workers. I belive ACT may be looking for Prison Officers. Not sure where you are hoping to go but you can try looking at the individual state(s) department websites. www.jcs.act.gov.au/ www.dcs.wa.au. etc.
hope this helps, i am just at the begining so cant help more. also try searching this forum and britishexpats.

None advertised in ACT at this moment ACT Government Jobs - Justice and Community Safety but dont despair, we have a new "prison" (not allowed to use that word!!) The Alexander McConchie Centre opening up about March and I know they were keen for new blood into the system and were disappointed to get applications from only those already in the system. It is going to be a new Human Rights prison. There are also often vacancies at Bimberi the new Juvenile Justice place. Dont be put off by the lack of adverts on any sites at the moment, this is the summer holidays and they wont get back into full swing for a couple of weeks yet.

Hi Debbie & Shadow
Welcome to Poms in Oz.
You may be aware that WA Department of Corrective Services (DCS) sent a team of people to the expos in the UK in 2008. Having chatted with potential candidates here they went back to Oz to consider how best to tackle the visa logistics.
I've heard within the last couple of months that DCS have decided to copy WAPOL by using a Labour Agreement with the Government. Once that is in place DCS will be able to select the candidate and then the visa should be dealt with very quickly. It is a streamlined, efficient, effective way to deal with the visa end of things and it has worked brilliantly for WAPOL, so there is now an easy model to follow as well.
It takes a bit of time to get a Labour Agreement into place but if this is what DCS are doing (if the rumour is right) then I think it will be worth it because life will be easier for everyone afterwards.
Best wishes
Gill

HI All, i have attached a general email i recived from the DCS couple of weeks ago.
Hope it helps

Dear Sir/Madam
UPDATE ON OVERSEAS RECRUITMENT
As we are now moving into 2009 I thought it would be timely to provide an update on the Department’s progress regarding overseas recruitment.
It is difficult at this stage to determine the extent if any that the changing global economic circumstances will effect recruitment targets for this Department. What I can say is that we still have an urgent need for highly skilled staff in many core occupations and as such we are intending to keep overseas recruitment on the agenda.
The Department intends to obtain the best immigration options it possibly can for overseas recruits and I am still involved in negotiations for a Labour Agreement with the Commonwealth Government. Negotiations are progressing very well and I am hopeful that they will be finalised in the next few months. Our recruitment cannot commence until we have an indication of how we will sponsor overseas recruits for employment with us.
I would like to thank you for your patience and will keep you informed of the Department’s progress towards overseas recruitment. Your contact details will be maintained on our database however if you no longer wish to remain on our database please inform me by return email.

Hi there,
My partner and i are in the same boat. Have you filled in an "expression of interest" form on the WA DCS site yet? We done this a while ago and they have kept us up to date with what is happening (which is really nothing at the moment). They are hopeful that the labour agreement will be finalised soon.
Nic.
