Hi Rebecca,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but no your Qualificatios are not enough, I manage a service for my local council who provide residential services, I have a number of quals along with NVQ 4 health/social care, NVQ 4 is equivilent to an AQF advanced diploma which is enough to get you in, the other problem is that it is only a 40 point occupation so it gives you the dis-advantage of starting with a reduced number of points.
If your young enough with enough experience and get the NVQ 4, this will hopefully give you the points total, I did get offered the chance of sponsorship in Adelaide, but not many company's sponsor this profession as it's not cost effective.
I was so desparate to get in I decided to retrain on a student visa and hopefully will be going in November fingers crossed.
Hope this helps you out.

hi thank you for your response :) its ok i didnt think it would be enough. Its frustrating as i know my job well and have lots of experience in it. Its so frustrating as experience seems to count for nothing :( did you train in OZ? if you dont mind me asking how much did it cost. My brother and his girlfriend have said i can come and live with them in geelong. I'd love to study in Oz but i doubt i can afford it :(

My partner is a Graphic designer with years of experience but isnt qualified as he went in on a aprenticeship so that also works against him.

Thats good to know about the NVQ lev 4, Im just doing mine in advice and guidance, and usingm y current occupation asmy recent relevant experience, have already passed my TRA for a prev job, but not got exp in the last 12 years for it.

carryonboo, can you not get to do your level 4, mine is only taking 6 months to do, and my employer is paying for it, and am doing it in works time too, which is fortunate, they have also offered to put me through a teacher qual (cant rememebr what it is) to help me when I get to Oz.

Hi well i will have to look it up. My employer has put me through to do NVQ 3 in Sept which i have been reluctant to do and am even more so now as if i have to do one id rather go stright to NVQ 4. my only prob with this is also even if i did it and got to visa it would mean having to work in NT wich my partner isnt sure if he could cope with the heat. all to complicated lol. i just want to live and work or study in geelong really to be nr my brother. i think working visa is my only option nad id have to do that soon as im 30 in april.

can your brother not sponsor you, then you wouldnt need as many points? That way you could live close by him,

Alot of NVQ 3 and 4 work is the same, I know some of the guys who have done level three in advice and guidance have just copied their lev 3 work directly into the lev 4 stuff so may be worth looking at.

Have you spoken to an agent about it all, they might be able to give you advise on the easiest way for you to get there..... it might be more straightforward than you think

Good luck with it all!
