Can You Attend Job Interviews On An Electronic Tourist Visa?

Hi does anyone know if you are allowed to attend job interviews on a tourist visa, I think ours will be the electronic one (our travel agent did it for us). Cant find any information about this on net. It just says you cant actually work on that visa.

My husband may use our time in March on a Looksy visit to go for some job interviews, kill 2 birds with 1 stone so to speak. Any help greatly appreciated.

OOOhhh thats a bit of a curly question !!!
have a peek at

What type of visa do I require to attend interviews?
If you are under 30 years of age you can come apply for a Working Holiday Visa for 1 year. This will allow you to work for up to three months for any one employer. It can also provide you with the option of looking at various organisations before deciding where you would prefer to work on a permanent basis.
An Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) Business visa would also allow you to investigate opportunities whilst in the country but not allow you to work.
This visa may last the life of your passport, but every 3 months you have to leave the country for a day in order to stay (a trip to New Zealand for the weekend would constitute this - cost approximately $400 for advance purchase fare), or you may come out on just an ETA Holiday visa, which will not allow you to work. To see if you are eligible for at ETA visa go to the following link Internet Visa Services Australia
This can all be arranged through your travel agent.

Hi There,

Can I just say "How would anyone know?" He's only going for an interview after all not starting work, just looking for a sponsor from your previous thread. Australian customs don't monitor your every move over here, the only thing I can think of is if you get stopped at customs and they find any of his paperwork, unless you bring a laptop and then you can print stuff off when you get here, run out of ideas really.

I hadnt even thought about paperwork in our luggage. We could always forward on his C.V. to the perspective employers by email before we go though. So I agree no one would actually know we were doing that. I have since looked around and it says you cant WORK on the tourist visa. So I think it will be ok anyway.

I agree, as he isn't going to getting any pay, just asking around, don't worry about it and glad I thought of the paperwork thing........watching too many Border Security programmes over here will do that to you. But it's true, if you get searched in customs and you have work things in your suitcase they will haul you in thinking you are coming over illegally and then it will snooker your application for residency. Glad I could help and good luck on your reccie.

More to the point would an employer actually wait for you to get a visa?
From what I've heard unless your visa in inniment or definite date they won't even bother giving you an interview.

Put yourself in the employers shoes, why would you offer a job to someone who couldn't potentially start for months when you could get someone else to start in weeks?
