i am telecomms engineer and my wife is a hairdresser we were told by our visa agent that my wife should be the main applicant on the visa , so as long as you have the neccesary qualifications and experience there so be no problems .

thanks mark

I relocated a family a few months ago and she was a hairdresser, they applied for the skilled visa on her skills and got here no probs,,you guys are certainly in demand she had 3 job offers the first 2 days she was here,as Mark says above as long as you have the qualifications and experience id go for it.
Its very difficult for drivers to get a visa as they wont release driver on the 'wanted' list ,however once youve converted your licence (which may mean another hgv test) jobs are readily available and seem to pay pretty good rates ,hope this helps a bit

Thanks for that, that has made me feel a bit better, we were getting abit worried as my husband would need to be the main earner. Do any of you happen to know how much he would earn as an HGV driver or car transporter?
Also, he wouldn't want to work away from home, is he likeley to get a day job so he could get home every night?

P.S. We don't have a clue where would be best for us to live so we are heading over in Feb 09 to try and sus things out.

Thanks guys
Ali&Paul, x

I would have a look at SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site or AllJobs.com.au - Search for Jobs in Australia for a guide to where the jobs are and to try an get an idea of wages.Real Estate | Homes for Sale | Houses for Sale | MLS Listings | REALTORs | Real Estate Agents - RealEstate.com will give you an idea of property prices in various places too, loads of truck drivers dont work away from home ,i would imagine its more money if you do though,,good luck with everything and if your heading brisbane way and need digs give me a shout,,

Thanks sue,
Good Luck in Sydney, you must be so excited.
Oz does seem to be crying out for hairdressers, not like here, the place is overflowing with us!!!
Best wishes, Ali & Paul. x
