Conservation work in Oz

I know it's not really a career / job as such but I'm planning to volunteer for conservation work once I get settled in Oz.
Has anyone been involved in conservation work in oz or has got any suggestions as to where to start?

I'm good with gardening, DIY & am an accountant by trade. I will be based in Melbourne so initially I'd be looking around that area but in a few years I'd be willing to travel around oz.

I guess it will depend on where you live in the Melbourne metro area but any of the many Friends Conservation Groups would welcome you with open arms.

Another good source of obtaining information on volunteering in a Friends Group would be your local council.
