welding

Hi myself and the family are looking into emigrating to western australia , doing as much homework as possible but as others seem to be experiencing i am concerned about qualifications , wages , different types of welding etc . Can anyone give me any info about this also what exactly is a boilermaker , there seems to be hundreds of vacancies for welders and boilermakers but just want to get everything right before we sell the house and make the jump . thanks

We have just returned from Perth and welders are wanted everywhere. Try specialised welding or Austal. We saw many companies with big signs outside their workshops desperate for starters.

Most jobs ask tou to take an onsite test to see if you can do the job, I know many people who have never had to show their tickets.

Pay depends where you work really but many have gone to the mines to earn lots of cash.

This is the details of what a boilermaker is on the modl list.

My hubby is pipefitter/welder and has been told he can get work as a boilermaker.
  • studies drawings or specifications to determine job requirements
  • selects, cleans and prepares metal stock, fabrication tools and equipment
  • cuts, rolls, bends, shapes, moulds, spins, heats or hammers metal products to fabricate parts or sub-assemblies
  • fits and assembles metal components by riveting, bolting, welding, brazing or soldering
  • finishes products by cleaning, polishing, filing or bathing them in acidic solutions
  • measures quality of fabricated parts or sub-assemblies
  • may set up and operate spinning lathes to spin shaped articles from sheet or structural metal
  • may plan, layout and fabricate mould patterns or templates for producing metal castings or articles
Hope this helps a little

I wouldn't worry about getting a job til you get there theres so many.

Try looking on this website/forum Welding Forum - Speedglas - Redwing Boots - Kromer Welding Caps - Welding Jobs - Welding Caps - Welding Helmets plenty of blokes on there in perth that can offer help in finding work.

Not completely sure what the difference is between 1st and 2nd class, I think its to do with the codes and 1st get paid more I am led to believe.

Good luck
