Electrician ( Please Help)

Hi guys
Im planning on moving to Melbourne in a few months im a qualified electrician and ive spent the last 7 years working in the electronics industry. I passed the skills assessment as an Electrician (special class) and im hoping on working as an General Electrician again in Melbourne. Ive heard to get a Australian License its different in all states so can anyone tell me how you get one for victoria? Also is it true that you have to have recent experience as an General electrian in order to qualify?

Hi not sure if I can help but my husband is lucky as he has worked in business (busniess analyst) however for the past few years he qualified as an electrical tester in the UK (we moved here in Dec 07). He had plenty of work as he was part 'p' qualified.

We looked into him coming over as an electrician and was told there was so many hoops for him to jump through as he would basically have to start again as an apprentice that we decided not to go down this route. I am a nurse so it was easy to get the visa and for him to work off it.

Yes you do have to have recent experience to qualify.

He is now a business analysist for an international company. Funny how things work out ...

good luck.

i'm a maintenance electrician and went under asco code for electrician special class as well.
you may also have saved yourself a load of money too. TRA assess electrician special class ($300) where vetassess do assessment for general electrician ($600 initial plus $1600 practical i think).
you can still get a license as a electrical mechanic (general spark). have a good search round the britishexpats website. there is loads of info plus if you scroll down the first page there is a forum for different trades, electrician is on there.
good luck.
any more info you need send me a pm with email address and i'll try to help.
